Approximate Purchase Date: During this week and next week.

Budget Range: £100 for PSU. £800-900 for entire build

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, Discord, Surfing Web/Youtube/Twitch

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: PSU, possibly other parts if my component choices are bad.

Do you need to buy OS: I'm not sure... I've been told I can take my current copy of windows 10 off this old PC somehow and use it on my new one and upgrade it to 11, don't know if this is true or not though? Can't currently upgrade my current PC to 11 because it's too old/not good enough.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: No preference just as long as it's in the UK.

Location: UK, England.

Parts Preferences: No Preference.

Overclocking: Just going to use the automatic options that you can use for the RAM, CPU, GPU etc like XMP and what ever else the others are called where you just turn it on and forget about it. Won't be doing any manual overclocking.

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: Primary monitor: 1920x1080 144hz BenQ EX2510 For gaming. Secondary Monitor: 2560x1440 60hz Acer XF240H for Discord, Surfing web, watching youtube vidoes and twitch streamers etc.

Additional Comments: Not really interested in the pc case and/or components looking nice and matching etc, I'd rather the money goes towards performance over aesthetics

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: My PC is like 8 years old and just struggles way too much to play games now, and when I do try to play a game on it I can't do anything else at the same time. I'm playing my two favourite games on my console but I'd really like to be able to play them on PC so I can be on Discord with friends at same time and listen to music etc and I prefer to play with mouse and keyboard.

I've already got a build put together which I'll put below and welcome any suggestions on changes etc. I've not bought any of the parts yet though as I'm trying to find a good PSU for £100 or less to go with it first but I don't know what I'm supposed to be looking out for in a good PSU and because I'm not fully confident on PC building was looking for feedback and suggestions first on all the other parts I've selected please.
I'm also going to be reusing my old 1660ti with the build as GPUs are too expensive right now.
My two favourite games are FFXIV and Destiny 2, I'm hoping to achieve 144fps 1080p with max setting or at least close to max? I'd also like to play other games like RPGS, MMOS and Shooters. I'm welcome to any suggestions on changes to parts I've already picked if needed as I'm honestly not very tech savvy, this will be my second build in like 8 years.

Note: For your workload, NVME speed difference will not matter, but CPU will. You can make a Windows partition and use the rest for storage. Works similar to 2 separate drives. The PSU is good quality with enough headroom to upgrade to a more powerful GPU later on.

I wont cut cost on motherboards with low quality VRM typical with the budget line boards. Gaming needs good quality baords to avoid thermal throttling. Rest is fine.

Thanks for the replies! I wanted to go with NVME for less cables to have to manage and if I can get away with using one and putting my OS, drivers, programs and games all on that single nvme that's great! I just heard that it's better to have your OS on it's own ssd to everything else that's all. So which case, cpu cooler and psu out of those 2 builds should I be choosing then haha. I originally chose the fractal because I want lots of airflow and dust filtering aswell as easy to build in and it had tie offs included in the case for any wires already.
I was also wanting to go with pwm fans so they control themselves based on cpu, gpu and temps inside the case instead of me having to do it manually because that's how pwm fans work isn't it?
And in regards to the OS, am I able to take the windows i'm using now then and using it on the new build?

Not really. Two partitions can essentially work similar to 2 separate drives on the same physical disk.

The Hyper 212 is fine if you go with the 12400. Dont go with the 12400F as the 6 bucks difference(at the time of posting) between them is not worth missing the iGPU for Intel Quick Sync and GPU debug capabilities. For the unlocked 12600k you definitely need a better cooler.
More resource for your reference...

For case the airflow is a very crucial factor. Forget those 2 cases above. This is actually better and within your budget. The amount of airflow in this case is massive and you probably wont need any fans. Check out the review below from one of the industry leading PC hardware expert...

Thank you! I'm actually going to go with the 12600k that you put together in the build with the asus z690 motherboard you suggested! :D And I'll go with just the one nvme ssd and that lian case then and it already includes 3 pwm fans so that's great! So in regards to cooler and psu, still go with the ones you suggested in the build you put together?

Do I also need to purchase a be quiet! LGA1700 mounting kit seperatly? It says in the notes on pc part picker: The be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 50.5 CFM CPU Cooler may require a separately available mounting adapter to fit the Asus PRIME Z690-P D4 ATX LGA1700 Motherboard.

Better VRM's and audio codec than that Asus board.

The RM650x is a high quality PSU and would be fine for your current build, it's just a question of whether or not you might need more in the future. Nvidia recommends at least 600W for a 3060 Ti and 750W for a 3080. Not all PSU's are created equal but if you did want to go to a top end card in the future a higher wattage wouldn't be a bad choice. It should be noted though that Nvidia tested it's GPU's with a much more power hungry CPU than the 12400F you have listed. Never used ADMI so couldn't comment on them.

Such powerfull CPUs (12400 and 12600K) and motherboards for a "budget" card like GTX 1660TI.

Don't get me wrong!, there are really awesome suggestions up there. And I guess if you wana have a really good platform to build up is not a bad idea to get a strong mobo and CPU.

On the other hand, I could be wrong but don't expect miracles (like 144fps) in games like FFXIV and Destiny 2, unless you lower your grapic settings.

I expect he will want to upgrade the 1660Ti at some point in the future but GPU prices as they are is holding onto what he has.

Yeah I do plan to upgrade my GPU at some point like Nighthawk said when prices aren't insane. That's why I'm using the 1660ti for now . I'll get the 650x one for now then I guess, then just upgrade the psu when i can get a new gpu which probably won't be a very very long time with the way prices are still.

If your going for a 12400F then your probably going to be looking at mid range GPU's like a 4060 or something when they are available, in which case 650W would be fine. It's not as if it's a low quality one either.

While the opinions matter, especially concerning airflow in the case, pick your own. The case, keyboard and mouse is extremely personal, you have to look at it, build in it, deal with it, we do not. We all have personal favorites and recommendations, but we only have to live with our own choices. A great airflow case might be good for you, but if the aesthetics are unappealing to you personally, it just sucks overall.

Games today can reach 100Gb easily when adding DLC's, mods etc so be aware of storage limits, you can always add more later so initial storage is of little importance for longer term use.

Psu wattage is on demand, not supply. 750w might seem like overkill, but the best wattage range for efficiency and temps is 50 to 60%. Pc+Intel = 250w±. Add a 300w gpu and you are in a good range. On a 650w psu, you are still fine, but getting closer to 75% range. Not an issue power-wise, just higher heat expenditure internally, so higher psu fan speeds.

Overall, the initial build was pretty decent. A little expensive, but tweaking components can lead to better performance for roughly the same expense.
