Some people want the brand and small perks that comes with the Noctua's, like their essentially lifetime socket support. Otherwise, yeah, the cooler you mentioned is up there along with several others for less cost.

That’s why I went with the Noctua despite the difference in price.

The Op asked what would else be good options for a build still not sure why people keep banging on about air coolers on the 7800x3d when a AIO is still better ..
question asked wasnt whats the cheapest/ best air cooler i can fit on a 7800x3d ..

ive nothing against air coolers had a notuca u12s chomax black few years back was great for a 3700x or 5600x now AIO's are still better in most cases !!

So is an AIO still better? Asking for a friend who is thinking about building a PC.

Each has it pros and cons - it's not one-sided, which is the impression I get from this post.

The CPU is fine at under 100C, and an X3D cannot overclock. if an Air Cooler keeps your CPU at 70C and a water cooler keeps you at 66C, BOTH ARE FINE. The AIO might technically be "Better" but it's moot as long as the CPU stays cool enough to be safe. Any money you spend over the cost of a decent, inexpensive Air Cooler was WASTED, and could be put toward a better GPU, a larger SSD, More or Faster RAM, or just put in your pocket.

You're 100% right. Exactly why I went with the Noctua D15. AIO just isn't necessary for my x3D processor.
