New Chipset cooler?

what should i use for a chipset cooler on my SIS735?
i am starting to think that i cant go over 133/133 because the chip is getting pretty hot.
right now, sitting on my desk, i have a Thermaltake GOLDEN ORB. i have this green "screwdown" heatsink for socket7 cpus, and a 'BEC6X86B1' heatsink from socket7 cpus, and it has this "rubber" pad on the bottom...i am pretty sure it isnt wax, because i can peel it back, and it feels like rubber, and it hasnt melted...
i need to get some sort of thermal adhesive, and am trying to figure out if the GOLDEN orb will fit....beause it is quite large...but i can see that as being the best choice for cooling a chip...
i am probably also going to get some ramsinks, OR, some better ram that already comes with them...OR, some faster rated ram, so i wont have to worry about it.
i am PRETTY sure that the GORB will fit on the chip, but it might be touching the cpu heatsink, and i would rather it not...
if anyone has changed the cooler on their 735, let me know what you used...as i would like to start gathering parts and adhesives...
thanks in advance!

oh yeah...if i dont use the GORB for the chip, then i would like to use it for something...but i cant think of what i would like to cool with it....or what it will fit on. suggestions on that are open as well...

i think you should get a 40 mm fan either online...or from an old slot 1 PII and just "stick" it on top of the existing heatsink...its just easier that way.

as for the GROB...try sticking that on you video card...just cause...

<b><font color=red>ATI</font color=red>'s drivers are like a broken faucet, they both keep on leaking...</b> 😎

i have fans, but i dunno, the heatsink that is on there is just held on VERY POORLY with thermal tape...very WEAK thermal tape.
almost feels like rubber cement! (and that was when the board was fresh out of the anti-static bag!!!! )
if anything, i was going to put an old pentium heatsink on it, and use a fan from that...not a slot 1 pentium, a socket7, because at least then it would be the right size.
but we'll see when i get some parts together.
i was thinking about putting the GORB on the vid card, but i want to wait until the warranty is over...or at least get a year out of it...which it will be a year mid summer, i think...something like that.
but i also thing the GORB would be a bit heavy for the vid card...that is a lot of stress to put on the agp slot...but i dunno...maybe someone has done it?

i dont think the Grob will put that much stress on the video cad...i have the crystal orb (CROB if you will) on my R8500 and it works fine...but its a tad loud...
also...if you have no experience messing around with removing old heatsinks...you might wanna do a little research on that before you do anything to your video card...so like you mid...mid summer should give you enough time to figure things out...

<b><font color=red>ATI</font color=red>'s drivers are like a broken faucet, they both keep on leaking...</b> 😎

oh, i know how to take off heatsinks....i have done it before.
and the GORB is MUCH bigger than the CRORB....the GORB is a socket processor cooler, not a chipset cooler...
it is like two and a half crorbs stacked on top of each other, and the base is THICK aluminum...it is MUCH heavier than a CRORB...
<A HREF="http://www.thermaltake.com/products/orbs/goldenorbintelfcpga370.htm" target="_new">http://www.thermaltake.com/products/orbs/goldenorbintelfcpga370.htm</A> but mine has the TWIST on clip....which is why i wouldnt use it on anything but a celeron1 pentium1 a k6-2 or a chipset...because this thing will CRUSH a p3 or a new celeron...but since this thing is rated for P3's up to 1.2GHZ, i think it would cool any of my things, vid card, chipset, rather adequately...
plus, another reason i would be hesitant to put it on my video card is it would take up like 3 pci slots! :frown: and seeing as how i am planning on adding a firewire card to this rig, and possibly another card, then it would behoove me to preserve my pci slots...too bad that they dont put the AMR or CNR slot inbetween the AGP slot and the first PCI slot...that would give us more room for video card mods! and it would let the video card cool better.

Ok, i linked to the wrong CPU cooler...
<A HREF="http://www.thermaltake.com/products/orbs/goldenorbintel.htm" target="_new">http://www.thermaltake.com/products/orbs/goldenorbintel.htm</A>
this is the correct one. sorry about that.

oh yea...i forgot that the GORB was a cpu cooler...ah well...
hmm...im not sure what you can do with the GORB other than use it as a cpu cooler....maybe you can pull off the fan and use it as an auxiliary fan and have it blowing over the video card or something...

<b><font color=red>ATI</font color=red>'s drivers are like a broken faucet, they both keep on leaking...</b> 😎

yeah, i took the fan out so i could clean it...turns out that thing can move some air...especially considering its size...and it isnt too loud...especially when removed from the heatsink.
if i pulled the retaining clip off the base of the heatsink, then i would most likely be able to use it on a chipset...but i dont think i would be able to on the K7S5a due to the close proximity of the chip to the cpu cooler.
oh well, cant win them all.
i guess i will just save it for a rainy day! 😱

Hey H,

Have you seen the Vantec chipset cooling kit? That & Artic Silver Thermal Adhesive? This "Artic Silver Thermal Adhesive" is a thermal permanent glue. Check out the Artic silver site. You might be able to use the a.s.t.a. to glue your HSF to the chipset & run a 3 prong to 4 prong adapter to power the fan off your PS. I don't know how big your HSF is & how close it is to your cpu & cpu HSF. Good Luck

Peace Out..........tile

It would be nice if everyone gave too much information about their system & problems.

i have seen the vantec chipset coolers...and i think it looks decent.
i was going to buy some ASadhesive....BUT, jbweld is supposed to work just the same...due to its similar properties....
and it is much cheaper.
but i dunno, might stick to AS adhesive....not sure.

i checked the fit, and i dont think that the whole chip will be covered, due to the fact that the GORB is going to be sooo close to the CPUs heatsink...
and that is NOT good.
i am going to look into making my own heatsink for the chipset...hehe.
going to have my friend tell me what aluminum to use...when i figure it out, i will definately post it here.
but even if i dont make it myself, i will post up what i come up with!

Hey H,

Cool! Let us know how it turns out. I am going to use the Vantec chipset HS with fan on my 8KHA+ chipset with Artic Silver Adhesive later this week. I don't know if it will lower any temps, but it couldn't hurt.

Peace Out..............tile

i doubt cooling the chipset will help that much cooling my CPU, but i just want to have my cooling OVER engineered...
maybe it is the german blood in my veins, but i just like to make things last longer than they normally do! and keeping things cool helps A LOT!

Hey H,

I like German things, and they last a long time. I am also tweaking my system. Nothing is ever perfect from the factory, so I tweak it a little. It's what I do until I can save enough to replace the system..........call it a hobby.

Good Luck on yours

Peace Out.............tile

Jhon,

I tried contacting SIS for the dimentions for the 735's Northbridge/Southbridge and for the distance ot the holes for the heatsink. No luck. I will keep trying for you though. I am trying to get a hold of the tech docs/white papers but also to no avail.

Cooling that chip will probably help so I'll try to get you an answer.

hey man, thanks a lot!
if i had that, i would be able to "easily" make myself a heatsink. and have it the correct dimensions!
again, thanks a lot man!

I never did get an answer for that from SIS.

I'll try again...

Uggh!
