New hardware suggestions

I have decided to upgrade some components on my PC.I currently have a XFX 780i motherboard, and I was looking for some ram(4 GB).My Q6600 is also overclocked to 2.8 GHz, so it has to have good timings, and be stable, I was looking at these

I was also planning on getting a new GPU, but I only have a 600W PSU, and a lot of the newer cards need more power.I need some suggestions on what PSU I should get.My last question is are the GTX series going to go down in price?They seem a bit pricey right now.Should I just get one or should I wait.I was gunning for a powerful GPU because I bought a new monitor, and it runs games in 1920x1200.Any input would be appreciated.Thanks

What's your current video card?
Anyway, judging by this review the 4890 is a reasonable choice. If you would like to have a newer card that supports DX11, runs cooler, is less noisy, less power hungry, less expensive but also approx. 20% slower you can get a HD 5770.
I don't think the prices of the GTX series will go down anymore simply because Nvidia has stopped its manufacturing as far as I know.
Also, 600 W should be enough if it's a proper PSU.
RAM, I don't see why this one wouldn't work as well and it's almost half the price of the CORSAIR.

as for RAM, go with G Skill 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 - 800 (PC6400)

I currently have an 8800GT 512 MB, and I have an OCZ StealthXStream 600 W PSU.I will have around 800 to work with.I was hoping to get an Nvidia card because of Physx, and I guess I'll go with the G Skill RAM.

Right now Nvidia is a no-show in the DX11 GPU competiton. That should change early in 2010. I believe you can run an ATI graphics card as your main and an Nvidia card (like that 8800?) as a dedicated PhysX card.

They stopped people from doing that in september.You have to have a Nvidia card.

Your power supply will handle any single-card solution out there, so don't worry about getting a 5870 or GTX 285, it'll work. If it was me, i would go for the 5870 - $400.00 US

That leaves $320.00 with that, i would ditch the RAM and go with a Core i5 platform, if not, go with the 2 mentioned above.

I would prefer a Nvidia card.At first I didn't think too much of Physx until I played Batman Arkham Asylum with it on.Are you suggesting I get a new processor, and motherboard?

I would get an ATI card, but games seem to be optimized better for Nvidia cards.The reason I am trying to upgrade, is because my new monitor is 1920x1200, and it's getting harder to run some games.Is DX11 that important?, if so when is the 300 series due out ?

Hopefully the GT300 series starts releasing in January, but probably not in volume for a few months.

ATIs 5000 series are generally better at gaming from a price/performance perspective than Nvidias cards even if you forget about DX11. The only thing ATI doesnt have is PhysX and CUDA, which are Nvidia proprietary. PhysX only works on a few PC games but if one you play has it, the effects are very nice.

DX11 is not that important right now except in a few games (less than PhysX). As more games upgrade their clients with DX11s enhanced shading and meshing features, running games in DX11 will give DX10 quality graphics at 10-20 FPS faster. If you are still running XP and are still on DX9 so it wont matter at all until you upgrade your OS. Its really a matter of how long you want the new graphics card to last. If you want 2 years or less then DX11 means little, if you want 5 years then DX11 is pretty important IMO.

I believe that you can still use an ATI card with an Nvidia for PhysX only IF you use an old nvidia driver. I'm not sure how far back you would have to go though.

But that will rule out buying a new ATI 5000 series, so you are back to comparing HD 4000s and GTX 200s and stuck at DX10. Not worth it.

Best guess is march or later.

Anyway, it's your choice, if you wanna sacrifice on the performance for PhysX go ahead, it's your decision. Though, if you wait until late Q1 - January is far from being realistic - you could get it all. Good performance, DX11 and PhysX etc.
Another option, probably the best one -> SLI. You can get a second 8800GT on ebay.
