Hi,

I have a Dell inspiron 15 5xxx laptop from 2018 which came with 1tb Seagate hdd and I added an 250gb nvme m2 ssd same time after purchase. Now few days back my 1tb hdd started failing files taking too long to open and half of the files were automatically deleted. I so today I bought new wd 1tb hdd and installed windows in one partition and the problem is that I cannot boot into the windows of my nvme ssd.

I tried using legacy boot because it is not showing in uefi but it says windows cannot start(f12 and select m2 ssd from legacy boot on startup)

Now when i insert my old Seagate hdd I am able to boot using uefi by pressing f12 on startup without any errors and cannot boot into the original windows that came pre installed from Dell on Seagate hdd because the computer goes into diagnostic mode and plays a loud sound saying hhd failure.

I have my windows setup on the nvme ssd and it will be real pain to reinstall with 2 years worth of programs which I don't remember all. On my new wd hdd there is only one boot showing in msconfig.

I also tried reseting mbr via my win 10 boot able DVD but it fails every time and I also tried check and repair startup issues but it says failed to repair. Nvme drive is healthy and can be accessed through command prompt and windows but the only issue is that it won't boot.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated, thank you!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

You should've found the new HDD installment the right time to install the OS anew on the NVMe drive. Also, why did you need to reinstall the OS when the HDD was only meant for storage? As for your OS, please recreate the bootable USB installer using Windows Media Creation Tools. Use that to reinstall your OS. As for the OS, you will need to format/break all partitions and then reinstall the OS.

Thanks for the help guys. I tried everything but nothing worked so I reinstalled windows and restored app data of the applications I use regularly.

I lost almost 400gb data so I rushed to buy a new hdd and started backing up and every time I restarted my pc free space was increasing. So I panicked and installed windows on new hdd 😔.

Anyways time and again I have learned that dont waste time on repairs just install new windows and keep things backed up because one day it is most likely to fail and this new installation is like a detox which will get rid of old unused softwares and junk files that the windows folder has accumulated over time.

Once again thanks for your time 😊👍
