Maziar, nice rig! Regarding the article, I thought it was great; the French dude knows how to write great reviews. I'd like to see more of him.

That's a bummer. I was just at their website looking for the 8800GT but they don't have it up yet.

Finally we have a decent midrange card, about time too!

Although you have to wonder what made nVidia do this, as with performance like this from the GT the GTX looks to be a true enthusiast buy right now.

Maybe they are worried about what ATI is about to release?

anandtech already did a few tests of 8800gt vs 8800gtx. it depends on how the game scales, but if you have a game that scales well with sli, the two 8800gt's will spank the 8800gtx right on the patootie for pretty darn close to the same price.

I'm not sure why everyone is getting so excited about this 8800 GT. My friendly local Wal-Mart has upgraded its inventory and is now carrying the NVidia 6200 Turbo Cache in place of the Nvidia GeForce 5500 they used to carry. Now THAT is something to get excited about.

Looks like at 1920x1200 with 4xAA 16xAF the 8800GTX would beat 8800GT SLI pair in Crysis by a good margin, although neither setup would be playable.

Congrats to anyone who waited, you are GREATLY rewarded, in price AND performance.

I caved in mid-Aug. for a 640Mb GTS, the GT is the card I wanted, but man did they ever play the runaround.

Nice new card.

But where's the high end version?

We all know theres a version out there with 2x the performance of an 8800GTX so where the hell is it and where is DX10.1 support?

If Nvidia think I'm waiting until next year for the high end version and DX10.1 support they can go f*ck themselves it will be ATI for me as I only buy a new GC once every year to 18 months!

Looks like I'm heading to Georgia.

On a more serious note, firingsquad review: http://firingsquad.com/hardware/nvidia_geforce_8800_gt_performance/page19.asp

Looks like this will be a beast, even compared to the new ATIs.

If you're looking for a well-known vendor to order from, buy.com is taking orders for the MSI 8800GT 512 overclocked card for $239 with free shipping. However they are still listed as "temporarily sold out". The PNY version with stock clocks is listed as "in stock soon".

Can I just ask, my system runs at 1280*1024 resolution. Is it worth me wating and getting the 256MB version of the 8800GT or the 512MB. I know that the difference mainly relates to resolution and wondered if the 512MB would be a waste and I could settle with 256MB?

NCIX.com(Canada)
NCIXUS.com(USA)

They have eVGA, XFX, etc. From what I know, they are quite good.
