I am setting up a new pc with a new mobo, but I am using the hd's from my last pc. I wanted to know if I need to do a pc backup for the software and os? Has anyone had trouble setting up and had to re-install the os and software? Any tips?

Well I am using the existing three hard drives from my last computer. I just got them less then a year ago. I was thinking about whiping the drives. However, I wanted to know if I could set everything up without having the whipe them.

first of why in gods name would you build a new computer and install a drive that has an existing os on it.
That's not helpful.

Rvanbel, there's pretty much no way to do what you're attempting. Assuming you've still got all your program discs, that shouldn't be too much of an issue. And if you could run off a few CDs with your documents, there's no reason why you can't reinstall.

I was always wary about re-formatting etc... but trust me, after a week of use the computer is always back to normal.

Since you have 3 hard drives, I'm going to assume that all three drives don't have Operating systems that get booted from. Only one drive, maybe a second. In any case, any partitions/drives that have only data on them (i.e. music files, movies, etc.) you can plug into the new and access without trouble. As for any operating systems, the safest action is to back up the data, and re-install the operating systems with the new motherboard installed.
