I just installed the corsair TX650, replacing a XION 580, and my CPU temps shot up around 6C. I need some advice on case cooling solutions.

First off, I have the apevia x-telstar mid-tower case (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811144211&cm_re=apevia_x-telstar-_-11-144-211-_-Product).
It has 1x 120mm rear exhaust and 1x120mm side intake fan. I had to remove the intake fan, since it didn't fit with the huge coolermaster hyper 212+ I put in a few weeks ago, leaving just a grill on the side of my case. I intended to cut a hole in the grill to run the molex on the fan through, and mount the fan on the outside of the case, but I'm no longer sure that will be enough.

Prior to upgrading the PSU, CPU temps using both coretemp and hwmonitor reached about 47-48C during gaming. After upgrading, temps went up to 53-54C under the same conditions. Upon removing the side of the case and letting it be completely open air, temps went back down, reaching around 45C under the same conditions.

Additionally, here are some pictures of the inside of my case. I believe I may have mounted the cooler fan on the wrong side of the heatsink, since it is back to back with the exhaust fan. Is this the correct configuration, and would getting a second 120mm fan on the heatsink improve temps?

Finally, what else could I do to improve airflow? obviously I need to re-mount an intake fan, but I'm thinking the stock apevia fans might not be good enough, and that I should upgrade. Sound is not a huge concern, performance is my number one priority. I intended to OC this system, but with the temps I'm getting, that's not wise at the moment.

System info:
955 BE processor
coolermaster hyper 212+ CPU cooler
corsair TX650 PSU
apevia x-telstar jr. case
evga 9800 gt

Final note, CPU temps with no side on the case range from 32C idle to 49C-ish under max load. Should I try reinstalling the CPU cooler...?

Thank you all for your time.

Solution
Yes, The cpu heatsink fan should be where you made the red rectangle in the photo and it should be pushing air through the heatsink toward the exhaust fan in the rear panel of the case.

I can't tell from the photo but do you have in intake fan at the bottom front of your pc case? That would give you airlfow from the bottom front to the top rear. It is the classic configuration.

Sorry if I'm wrong here, but the way I see it, your fan on your heatsink should face the other way....Your CM fan is pushing air inward while your exhaust fan is pulling air from the inside...you get the idea??

So to solve this, either you use push configuration (fan pushing air outside through the heatsink) or you mount your heatsink fan the other way around

Solution
Is the fan on the bottom of the new PSU an intake ?? IF so that is probably why your temps increased - since you currently have the air that is reaching that spot going in 3 directions !! (Back -pulling to the back of the case and out, PSU pulling it up and out the back of the case, and the CPU cooler trying to pull some in and over the Heatsink so they are all working against each other - you have the right idea in the pic you linked - by moving that around all 3 fans will be working together - the CPU fan will be pushing the hot air toward the back of the case and the PSU and back case fan will be pulling that hot air out of the system so the temps should improve !!

Thanks for the replies guys! Alright, I flipped around the fan, and it seems to have helped quite a bit, temps lowered about 5C. The fan on the bottom of the PSU is indeed an intake!

JohnnyLucky - I believe I do have a spot for one (not installed atm), I have a fan mount pictured here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v98/Arokh/newdiagram2.jpg
Upon closer inspection of the case, there's a small gap in the bottom front where I assume air is supposed to be pulled in. Would installing a fan here significantly improve airflow?
Also, the normal side fan mount is here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v98/Arokh/newdiagram3.jpg
I'll be reinstalling the fan on the outside of the case, since as I said before, it bumps up against the HS when on the inside.

What 120mm case fans do you guys suggest getting? Noise is not my number one concern, performance is, though having loud fans isn't terribly pleasant. Also, should I replace the two stock Apevia fans that came with the case (no idea on their specs), or just buy one fan, for the second intake slot at the front?

Yes, a fan should be installed in the space at the bottom front of the case between the front bezel and the hard drive cage. It will help improve airflow.

Each veteran has his or her own favorite fan. I've had good luck with Scythe S-Flex fans. They come in a variety of speeds. Fans rated at 1200rpm are sufficient for the typical user; however, if you are a hardcore gamer, then 1600 rpm fans are recommended.

One THing you might try is using the side panel fan in the front and just leave the side panel as an open intake that air can be sucked into the case from (side panel fans will sometimes actually hurt circulation of the airflow and raise temps - in some cases it is better to just leave them open without a fan so more cool air can ne pulled in through the vent if needed but not forced in !!)
