Question New RAM or new Motherboard?

Hey Guys,

I've deduced that I have a bad ram slot. My motherboard only has two ram slots so I'm in a bit of a pickle...

So do I either: a) get a new Motherboard, or b) get a single 16GB ram stick to put in the working slot (I had 2x8GB before).

There's only about a £10 difference between the two options, so price isn't really the issue here, just replacing the RAM stick will be considerably easier.

I am aware of the dual channel capabilities of RAM and motherboards, but not 100% clear on what that means. I primarily use my PC for gaming, will I see a difference with just one ram stick?

[EDIT] Is there a software explanation for a bad ram slot? One that could be fixed on the PC?

Cheers guys.

Please list your full computer specs (motherboard, CPU, RAM, etc.)
The performance difference (in games) between single and dual channel RAM, taking everything else out of the equation, is around 3-7%.
The question is whether or not getting a different motherboard will give you further upgrade options later vs. just getting a larger RAM stick. To answer, we'll need your specs.
