[CONTEXT]
So here's the situation. This was my PC.
CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 + AMD stock fan
GPU: AMD RX 570
MB: ASUS prime B450M-A
PSU: Corsair VS550
Storage: 1TB HDD + Samsung 980 1TB m2 nvme SSD
Fans: x2 120mm
[CHANGES I MADE BEFORE CRASHES + EXPLANATION]
I've upgraded my GPU to a RX 6700 XT recently.
Everything went fine at the beginning. Uninstalled old drivers using DDU and installed the correct GPU driver from AMD + chipset driver.
Played games like CS2 or Division2. Everything went fine the first week.
However, yesterday I launched CS2 with FACEIT Anti-cheat and my PC crashed right when the game opened at the menu screen.
Note that this doesn't happen when I launch CS2 without FACEIT anti-cheat.
I've uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled it, verify game files, reinstall CS2. Nothing worked. So I switched back to my old goat GPU RX570 and installed the driver for it and launched it.
My PC didn't crash. CS2 ran, with and without FACEIT anti-cheat.
So today I put my new GPU back into my PC RX 6700 XT, uninstalling old drivers and reinstalling new driver to test if it still crashes. It does. Now my PC crashes when I launch games but also when I open Radeon Software and start clicking on buttons like the settings icon. Tried installing older drivers, same thing.
[CONNECTIVITY]
Because VS550 only has two 6+2 PCIe connector, and RX 6700 XT needs 8pin + 6 pin for power, I am connecting like this.
[WHAT HAPPENS WHEN IT CRASHES]
I have 2 monitors. My main screen connected via DP displays a black screen. My second monitor connected via HDMI displays a green screen without any texts, NOT GSOD. My PC crashes and it automatically tries to restarts. There are no error messages anywhere. In the event viewer, I see critical errors at the time I crash with "Kernel-Power" as source.
[SUSPICION]
The fact is my PSU is ... 6 years old. It is the oldest component in my PC. It is probably a PSU problem but I want to make sure it is before buying a new one.
However if my PSU is faulty, it is still weird that I was able to play CS2 or Division 2 on medium settings for like a week without any issues.
[UNPLEASANT EVENTS AFTER INSTALLING NEW GPU]
- PC crash when playing Division 2 on pretty high settings, no vsync but fps max 100, high graphics settings iirc
- Few lags in my first CS2 game on ancient (graphically demanding map compared to others). Lags especially when I made sudden movements or start shooting. Had to change Radeon software settings from default to performance so it doesn't lag.
- PC crash when launching CS2 with FACEIT anti-cheat
- PC crash when I launched the game "INSIDE" for the first time today
- PC crash when I was literally writing this post, with 4 more tabs opened plus spotify 🤣
[EXTRA]
If the PSU is the problem, what are recommendation for a new PSU. Should I go future proof with like 1000W or is 650W or 700W enough? Also what brand/model?
