I'm not sure why they sought to do this via a filter now instead of just a highly visible color coded tag like the [Solved!] tags.

We actually do have a Solved thread prefix, but it wasn't applied retroactively (nor was Question or Discussion). You can see one on this thread: https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/quick-compatibility-question-surround-memory.3448425/

There's way too much space for stuff on the right of the threads.

You can collapse either or both sidebars. If you click on the hamburger menu next to the TH logo it will collapse the left sidebar, and the three dots in the top right under the Alerts link will collapse the right sidebar. You can collapse them by default via your profile preferences here: https://forums.tomshardware.com/account/preferences

I was only referring to Unanswered threads actually. I only used the [Solved!] tag as an example.

Thanks so much for the heads up on how to collapse the right side. I especially like that you can set it that way in your preferences. The thread and font size is almost perfect for me now even with the left side open to click on the Unanswered filter. I'm thinking if they tweak some boldness into the faint fonts with theme options, it will be plenty good enough though.

BTW, I hadn't noticed before when you go to your desired forum subheading (PC Gaming for instance), when you click on the Unanswered filter, it shows unanswered threads for ALL sub forums. Is there a way to get the Unanswered filter to show only the unanswered threads of the sub forum you're on when you click it?

If not this is a real nuisance and makes it not worth even bothering with the Unanswered filter. Also, the past forum always showed new responses of threads you're subscribed to in the upper right. Will this new forum eventually have that feature?

One last thing, I just noticed the 119 videos of my two video tutorials I submitted no longer show as embedded videos. There's just the video URL in [video][/video] tags, but a "Disenchanted" emoticon as the first part of the URL. So it seems your new emoticon code is conflicting with URL links.

Still more (didn't want to double post). I noticed preference settings on fonts and pane options do not stay enabled even though they show they still are in preference settings. I tried large fonts and instead it bolded them, which is fine as I found it was more the lack of boldness than font size. It just won't stay that way. Also, I'd set the right pane to collapse as I said above, but now it's back to showing.

The way that badges were previously granted was based on tag, rather than on individual responses. The new system calculates trophies based purely on the Best Answer count itself, so you may very well end up with a lower level trophy than you previously had, as some BA's were being double-counted for multiple categories. Your Best Answer count itself should be accurate.

That should resolve itself with time as things properly index.

Which is it?

I believe that will be added as soon as they can. I miss that feature myself.

The Alerts system sort of does that already, it will alert you if anyone replies to a thread you are watching (helps to go into settings and make sure you have it set to alert you of any replies in threads you are in now) - you can also set forums to watched so you see everything posted in the watched view.

the format the old videos were in didn't translate properly onto new forums, so you might need to manually edit all the links to use the media tag the new forums work with. The :) in the link is just a display bug that will hopefully be fixed, its not what is stopping videos from working. Use the insert button and choose media to link videos. Sorry for inconvenience. we had other threads we just had to close and restart due to that.

From another thread:
But a mobile app would be nice for push notifications since the whole send me an email when something new is posted feature never worked right on old site and I'm not sure if it even is an option or works properly with the new site.
And push notifications would go nicely with the new social media aspect of the new site as well.

Let's keep it a secret between you and I that any member of the forums ever asked for browser push notifications. Trust me on this one. As for mobile app, Tapatalk is coming.

We're working on a fix for bulk reformatting all the old threads that contain videos. This primarily affects tutorials, but it shouldn't be that tough to parse the older bbcode. If you'd like to change your own threads in the interim to reflect the updated code, feel free!

Could it be possible to add a few new sections?

Soon. We've been asked not to make any major adjustments to forum categories until things have stabilized and we're on solid ground again. By way of analogy, the house has been moved from one state to another via tornado, so we're going to let the foundations settle before rearranging the furniture. That said, there's a full categorical hierarchy revamp change-up a long, long, long time coming that's waiting in the wings.

my sincere complements to everyone whom contributed to make this happen. It's clean , rich and colourful and im sure it will attract new permanent members. Glad to be a part of this community

Thanks! I will relay your compliments to the rest of the team. :)

I'm not sure i'm getting alerts that there has been a response to posts i'm involved in. I believe i am setup by default to alert. Anyone else?

Ditto here. Haven't seen alerts for awhile now, but then, I've got My Watched Threads linked so I can see what's been updated, quickly. If anyone updates a thread while I'm looking elsewhere, however, does not fire off an alert.

isn't that the idea of the "watch" list? if you go to the subforum you want. top right corner of thread list has watch button. then from the left you can select "unanswered threads in watched forum" i may be misunderstanding but seems like what you're asking

Is there a setting through which I can shift the menu from left side of the page to top of the page as it is taking good amount of space which can be used by center content section. The Center portion is squeezed and small with small font size it is really hard to read long threads.

No but you can collapse the rightside bar, scroll to the top of this thread and click the 3 dots next to the reply button.

We need BLACK TEXT instead of the much harder to read text that's now being displayed in posts. This new font for displaying text is much harder to read on my 15" Dell Inspiron 5570 laptop. I will not be posting replies in the technical forums until this is remedied - too hard on the eyes. :(

Hi,
What's happened to the UK forums by the way? Has it been scrapped and now this is the only English one left? It just suddenly disappeared yesterday.

when using the google authentication I get a 400 with the message
Error: redirect_uri_mismatch
The redirect URI in the request, https://forums.tomshardware.com/connected_account.php, does not match the ones authorized for the OAuth client. To update the authorized redirect URIs, visit: https://console.developers.google.com/apis/credentials/xxxxxxxx/xxxxxxxxxx

Ok will have the the Admins take care of that, nothing I can do there

They are gone, they have been merged into this forum (it was actually all the same forum anyway). This was actually announced a few months ago.
