newish to overclocking, really need a walkthrough

i have a q9300 @ 2.5GHz and im looking to overclock it to at least 2.8 GHz if possible. my multiplier is 7.5x, and when i go into the bios and go to overclock settings i see fsb is 333 MHz. so i go and change it to 340 MHz and my cpu wont start. so after i reboot 3 times (my mobo has a auto reset safety feature) i go back and change it from 333 MHz to 335 MHz and it wont start. also should i link or unlink the memory speed? i would really like to understand how to overclock using the bios. but have no idea why such a little increase makes my pc not start. so if anyone could walk me through this its greatly appreciated.

i did but i would rather hear the important stuff. just straight how to do it.it gets confusing reading the stickies. ive seen people on here who have helped others by walking them through it. its just easier. so if anyone could that would be great

Its a Dell, with a 630i mobo. Be happy it boots at all.

Read the stickys, its not hard to figure out.

If you wanted to overclock, you shouldn't of bought a Dell.

ummmm... do some research man before you go flaming people. dell gave the consumer total overclocking control with the 630i. im extremely happy with this pc. i can overclock just like anyone else. i just dont know how to do it successfully.

+1 for the Dell is cr@p. So is the 630i chipset. So are their PSUs.

WRONG! There is a difference of getting the options and the ability to support those options (lol do you have LLC on that board, and +.01 increments of voltages? I doubt you do). In the OCing community 630i is consider a cr@ppy chipset to OC on because it is not stable (ie not able to gain high FSB, require too much voltage, heat,Prime95 stability issues,etc). You WON'T understand this unless you DO your research first!

do a bloody search then, just look through the first few pages, people have been doing this for years, somewhere on toms forums will be the info you need, it is up to you to find it.
