Question No boot from a new Powercolor 7700 XT (2nd one)

Hi everyone,

I've run into an issue I've never had with new hardware before.

My specs:

  • Motherboard: ASRock B550M Pro4
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB)
  • DDR4 Video Card: Powercolor Fighter 7700 XT
  • PS: Corsair RM750x 80 PLUS Gold
  • Operating System & Version**:** WINDOWS 10 PRO 19045.4651
  • BIOS Version: 3.40
  • GPU Drivers: 24.7.1
So, my previous card is an ASRock 6650 XT. I got a good deal on a 7700 XT and went for it. But the 7700 doesn't boot in my system. It spins up for a few seconds and then the whole system tries again over and over. My 6650 works just fine.

This is actually my second card because I figured (for the first time) I ended up with a DOA part. But the second go at the 7700 XT does the same thing. I can't figure it out, this should be a simple swap.

My BIOS is updated to the most recent version. I'm using two separate cables for power to the card. The only odd thing (clue?) is that with the 7700 installed and attempting to boot the red LED POST light for the CPU is still on for some reason.
 
What cables are you plugging into the GPU? (example: ATX 12V Power Connector(refer to your motherboard/manual)

Just the standard 8-pin PCIE cables. My 6650 XT uses one 8-pin, and the 7700 XT uses two. And I'm using separate cables for that, not one split cable.

You claimed that you updated your BIOS, does your previous graphics card boot with this new BIOS? If it does, have you tried using one cable for this GPU? Is everything seated properly? Check power cables if they are seated securely. Unplug plug back in. Did you get a red light for your ram as well or just CPU?

Yeah, thanks for trying to help me out with this.

All of that has been checked or done. I've had the previous 7700 and the new one in and out multiple times, and I checked again and it's seating correctly. I tried switching around the power cables, trying different PCIE plugs on the PS...I tried using only one cable and its splitter (tried both cables on their own individually).

The bios was updated months ago...I just mentioned that so everyone would know this wasn't some system that has the original bios running. I had to update past a certain version for the Ryzen 5600 I put in back then (from a previous 3600), and so I just updated to the most recent official version. That version is still the latest.

And after all this, I can just pop my 6650 back in, and everything boots right up.

I studied what the POST LEDs are doing exactly...boot led, then CPU/RAM leds, those go out, then boot again with the CPU led flashing once. All fans spin up during this, including the card fans. Then after that CPU light flash, it starts the process again.
 
Is there anything unusual going on with the cpu? Bent pins?
reset the BIOS by jumper clearCMOS?



try different RAM or CPU?

Nothing is going on with my system outside of the Powercolor video cards not working.

I cleared the CMOS and reset the BIOS to default, and no change. I didn't think it would help, but I tried to boot the system with one stick of RAM (tried both sticks individually) and that didn't help either. I don't have any other compatible parts to swap/test.

I figures it wouldn’t work, just tried it for the sake of the POST led. I’ll come back with some answer to the graphic card soon
 
Where did you buy it from exactly? Who was the seller and what are the details? Maybe you bought a full on Lego brick?

Both cards have come from Amazon. I just guessed the first one was DOA, then waited 2-3 weeks for Amazon to get them back in again to send me a replacement.

Interesting, there was no seller info or anything else? Probably straight from Powercolor. I’m going to give a probable diagnosis since you got 2 DOAs, contact customer service about the 2 problems and see if you get any reimbursement of any kind? I’ve never dealt with Powercolor/ never heard of them lol. If I think of something else I will reply to thread again. Best of luck!
 
Well, I think I'm going to give up. I can just return it through Amazon and get a refund at this point. There is no reason why this card shouldn't work, and it should be a simple swap. I don't know. Thanks for the help.
