Maybe there is some sort of strange evil plan for Microsoft to make Win8 so hated. You know what is next? Remove the task bar all together! Then for Windows 10... there won't be any such thing.

They are forcing the testers to test the metro style instead of just resorting to what they are familiar with. People HATE change, but it is inevitable and MS can't see what needs tweaking when most people are just tweaking Win8 to look like Win7. MS is smart enough to cater to win7 for awhile until people get used to looking at 8. Then when 9 comes out, everyone will converge on that.

Fortune 500 company worker here. Just got my PC replaced yesterday through standard lease replacement. We're still on XP :)

One of the problems with Windows 8 is the graphics drivers, only a few high end graphics cards have Windows 8 drivers (and no you cannot use Windows 7 drivers) and the ones that I have tried have been very buggy. Windows 8 may fail due to this reason alone.

Sigh...Why does my OS have to dictate what hardware I use? On small devices like phones and tablets touch screens make sense however I don't want or need a touch screen on my PC. All the fingerprints will get in the way of my HD movies.

[citation][nom]EDVINASM[/nom]Best of luck and good bye Windows 8. Hopefully Windows 9 will be a "smarter" OS.[/citation]

Yes it will be called Cloud 9.

I still need to hear a descent explanation from MS about how to actually use Metro efficiently in a business environment. It seems all the focus is towards the consumer market and "apps", but what about those who need their PC to get work done?

[citation][nom]wildkitten[/nom]Well, if there is a silver lining to all this, the really good Windows 2000 and XP followed Windows ME. Since Win8 seems like the new ME, perhaps the next couple of versions will be very good. Let's hope they come out pretty quickly.[/citation]

I think Windows 9 has been scheduled for a 2014 release. http://www.winmatrix.com/forums/index.php?/topic/33440-windows-9-developer-preview-in-2013-and-beta-in-2014/

Its possible, as market-share slowly erodes (not fast enough), they move closer towards yearly updates. Remember, Windows names used to be years (Win95 / 98) but oddly, Win98se should have been Win99. Win95 OSR2 should have been Win97 :)

If they are doing 18month OS updates (like Mac OSX) it may explain the price drop, Who knows... who really cares.

That said, it seems that Microsoft is trying to keep the desktop of old out of sight, hoping users will simply grow accustomed to the new blocky era of Windows.

That or users will say screw you and not upgrade or go to another OS.

[citation][nom]drwho1[/nom]This news simply puts the last nail in the Windows 8 coffin. In the other hand, I think that we should thank M$ from saving us money because now Windows 7 will last us for at least another 5 years (+/-) without having to upgrade.Note: if by any chance M$ insist on keeping this POS UI on Windows 9, then Windows 7 might very well be my LAST M$ OS.[/citation]

That's the funny thing about Windows 8 news. Someone always says, "That's the last nail in the coffin," but Microsoft just keeps pounding in more nails.

Now's the time for damage control. This is like trying to put out a fire with gasoline.

[citation][nom]M1n3Kraft[/nom]It baffles me why people complain about something they never tried, or ever will in the near future. Then again, any argument that had a lick of sense on here got downvoted.[/citation]

You DO know you can download the Release Preview and try it out... right?

We aren't upset about bugs. Any user now-a-days knows to overlook certain performance pitfall, graphical artifacts, etc. We're upset with the utter nonsense of "Metro" and the inability to just USE THE COMPUTER without having to navigate through metro's clutter and inefficiencies. Not to mention the fact that microsoft STILL hasn't included a decent Expose function (which ubuntu does quite well).

I will not buy an operating system with a "Start" menu that takes over my entire 22" monitor. It's a jarring effect that rips me out of my workflow. Nor will I use one that has TWO taskbars. If you've actually TRIED Win8, you'd know that Metro has it's own task bar on the Left (which you get to with an awkward mouse movement). This taskbar will show the "desktop", but not any of the apps running on it. The "desktop" taskbar shows apps running on the desktop, but none of those running in the "metro" section. Why can't I just ditch the lite version of windows (metro) and just USE my computer?!

This is why we're pissed. This is why we will NEVER buy this POS OS. And, this is why all of the devil's advocates are getting 20+ thumbs down on pathetic attempts to make this sound like a decent version of Windows.

This can be Microsoft's worst mistake even worse than company's mistake with Windows Vista.

[citation][nom]pocketdrummer[/nom]You DO know you can download the Release Preview and try it out... right?[/citation] it's like every bit of news about win8 make me(many of us) hate windows 8 more and more. For example, the release preview that most of us have. It has an Aero2.0 type skin that looks nicer than win7. They toned down the 3d and gradient a bit. But in win8 RTM, they made the desktop an uninspired ugly as shit 1980s style UI. Did they actually pay someone to make this crap? But hey, that it want Ballmer and the rest of the no-brains management choose to go with. It's like they said "make the desktop as ugly I as possible so folks would rather use metro."

Nice good way to kill Windows Server 2012 forced to use a phone UI on a server that won't fly all businesses i have talked to already expressed that no machines we build have Windows Server 2012 on it due to that fact.
Looks like another vista fiasco to me i don't know who is making these decisions but they need to see how the real world works and even home users after telling them they have to totally re-learn windows 8 because it's nothing like windows 7 don't want windows 8.

Well, I will be sticking for Win7 for a long long time. If they stop supporting it and Win8 becomes the only supported Windows platform, then I will buy a Mac.
