No sound in game

Hey guys,

I've recently put all of my parts into a new case, before that I could hear sound every time in games and when on anything else.

Since I have swapped my parts over, it will only play audio in my games every 1 in 10 times I open them. I have tested different games, far cry 3, war of the roses, dayz, wasteland etc.. and still I get no sound. I can listen to my friends on skype still, even when the games are running. Everything else is fine, but there's no sound from the game.

My PC:

AMD 8350
sabertooth 990fx
GTX 760 gigabyte
500gb hdd
8gb ddr3 ram

When I start up the games too, it will go completely silent for about 3 seconds. I can't hear anything on skype, or youtube. It literally just goes silent.

I've checked that my headphones are in fact my default device, checked in game sound and can't think of anything else it would be.

Any response would be appreciated,

thanks

Solution
Don't know why moving stuff often messes up the PC, I have had it happen several times myself and it is really aggravating. Hope I can help you.
Start with clearing your CMOS/BIOS. Instruction can found in the mobo manual.
Upon rebooting, go into the UEFI screen(BIOS) and make sure it is set to Advanced Mode. In Advanced Mode select the 'Advanced' tab at the top, click on Onboard Devices Configuration. At the bottom should be "SB HD Azalia Configuration", click on that and make sure 'HD Audio Device' is enabled, and Azaliia Front Panel is set to HD.
You will probably have to reset the boot order to your liking, but until you get the sound working I would leave most everything else at the default setting.
If that doesn't cure the prob., go into device manager, Sound, video and game controllers; see if Realtek High Definition Audio is listed.
If it is, go to control panel and uninstall your audio driver, then reinstall your Audio drivers. (I would just use the ones off the install disc that came with the mobo, worry about updating later.)
Please repost with results, or tell us if you have already done these things. I have to be away from my PC for a bit, but will get back to you as soon as I can, and if we are both lucky someone else will join this thread and have some suggestions. There are a couple more things I know of that might help, but do the above first. Sorry, got to go .

Such a great reply, thanks for being so quick and helpful! I will try that tomorrow and get back to you. I appreciate your help

Whoa!! I forgot something really important!! Make certain that you have hooked up the front panel (I assume that is where you connect your headphones) correctly: Most cases now provide an AC97 connector AND an HD connection. Make sure the correct one is on the correct header. The mobo manual will show you the location of the front panel audio header on your board. VERY easy to make this mistake when swapping to a new case.
Talk to you tomorrow.

Hello,

I've got to say thank you for the effort you have put into this for me, I honestly can't thank you enough. It turns out it was something obvious. When I started up games it would go silent for a minute. This way my PC switching my games to realtek audio instead of keeping it on my speakers. This was why I was confused, I had expected it to completely take over all of my audio and not just my games!

Thanks for helping, A*

Cheers

You're very welcome. Please don't forget to choose a best solution so others will know that the problem was solved and "case closed".
