No sound on Acer laptop

Why don't i get any sound from my Acer laptop model: Aspire 5536-5883, with a recently installed Linux OS, even though it is not muted and the volumes are set to full-blast?

What Linux distro are you using?

I'm using 10.04 LTS

Is that Ubuntu? I don't think so since it is at version 12.10, unless you're not upgrading because of LTS.

Yes it is Ubuntu. I"m not sure about the upgrades or LTS

post output of "sudo aplay -l" you may just need to select the correct output device in 'alsamixer'

Go into System settings and select the sound output device. Make sure it is the inbuilt laptop speakers.

And for extra info, LTS is long-term support. It means that even if newer versions of Ubuntu come out, the LTS versions of older releases are supported for longer periods of time.
