wow.. this article causes a very strong DUH impulse for me.. i mean.. apple computers are retardedly over priced, so if people are going to blow a load of cash on one, it makes sense that they will be buying other CEs.

[citation][nom]chaohsiangchen[/nom]Basically this report is total garbage. What this report tells are all well-known which one can get the idea by off-loading the thinking to one of his knee. I hope this wasn't done with taxpayer's money.[/citation]

Its a market research group... so not taxpayer money. Believe it or not the government does save its money for things that matter.

Yes,it is all a little obvious. Jobs has repeatedly said that he wants to be the BMW of computers. They are clearly doing that well.

And seriously, why so many windows fanboys that just dump on everything mac? The people that buy macs know they arent getting the best price deal--they just dont care about it like you do.

[citation][nom]D_Kuhn[/nom]I make well over 100k a year and while there's no way I could afford a Benz, I DO have a ton of tech toys.No Apple PC's though...[/citation]

Really? I make just over $100k, have 2 Benz's (paid in full), tons of tech toys and guitars, and 0 debt...except for the mortgage. I guess it depends on where you live.

This is not very surprising. Apple products are marketed as flashy, expensive status symbols. It stands to reason that if somebody has an expensive Apple product like one of their laptops, they probably care more about their image than somebody who buys a less-expensive, less-flashy laptop. They will buy more additional flashy objects like iPhones, navigation systems, and expensive home-theater setups than other people because they are status symbols. I betcha if you did the same survey again but surveyed people who owned Sony laptops vs. people who don't, the results would be probably pretty similar and for the same reason- Sony products are also generally sold as expensive, flashy status symbols.

[citation][nom]jonny1245[/nom]Well, I can tell all of you this, as a developer, I find it much easier to code using my Macbook pro...
[/citation]

Well I say, as a developer, that all of that rubbish is nothing compared to the ease of use of Microsoft Visual Studio.

PCs can run osx just as well as macs can run windows, so why waste the cash.

A suggestion for a better survey.
~Percentage of Mac users wearing those thick rimmed glasses and generally appearing metrosexual. Seriously, is it just me or does this stereotype really seem to happen a lot?

First, the guy who has more money buys more stuff? Who knew? At least there's a 'study' to tell us that.

And B, the guy who buys an Apple computer because it's pretty brings it home, tries it out for a while, realizes it sucks baboon ass and says 'fuck this' and goes and buys a PC.

So there's one more computer in his house.

"Not surprisingly, with the popularity of the MacBook, 72 percent of Apple owners have a notebook, while only 50 percent of Windows owners have a portable."

um, actually, its cause the imac is basically a far less portable Macbook...

integrated screen... uses laptop parts... expensive... may as well buy a macbook and get portability as well.

PC users on the other hand choose the less portable desktop over a laptop because THEY ARE CHEAP!

This seems like an odd place for class warfare. Is it rich envy? I own a Macbook Pro because I like it better than any other laptop I found. The physical features like the power connector & glass covered screen are examples of good engineering. It's been far more reliable than my desktop (but that's software related). It's way quicker than friends running Vista on their laptops. Why all the exception taking? It's a personal choice. Make yours and pay for it. For games I built a PC. The Mac is all business. And yes, I could afford a Benz but choose not to. Not reliable enough, I'll stick with my Toyota. Oh, and if you have to finance it you can't afford it.

lol if you have 2 children and make over 100k you barely have enough for groceries... What this report tells me is that clearly the stupid people are the ones in charge making the big bucks.

I have a Mac LCIII, Apple IIE, PowerMac 6100, Two G3 IMacs, Atari 800, Atari 130XE, six P4 PC's two core 2 duo PC's, An old A21m Thinkpad, 52" LCD 1080P TV, Touch screen Cell phone, And a CNC milling machine in my garage. O I just bought a Space ball mouse for 3D Cad at home. I am an expert machine tool programmer. I can also code in C, C++, Visual basic 6, Visual basic.NET, Xcode, Fortran, Cobol, assembly "a little" and have done embedded stuff "Pic programming with MPlab". I also have experience setting up BSD and linux servers. How much money do you think I make? And what car do I drive?

[citation][nom]Yoder54[/nom]Really? I make just over $100k, have 2 Benz's (paid in full), tons of tech toys and guitars, and 0 debt...except for the mortgage. I guess it depends on where you live.[/citation]
Dude, I own 2 Benzs and I make $40k/yr. Stop making us Mercedes-Benz owners look retarded

Wow. this article sure struck a nerve in the Windoze community haha.

1. On the dude who is fortunate to earn over 100k and does not own a Mac.... no one said a high income always means you have good taste. (Incidentally.... does your major source of income involve the cottage industry around supporting/servicing/fixing lesser OS' ? :))

2. To the dude who likes overclocking and other bits and bytes. go to the beach, movies, parks, mountain climbing, etc. Macs and PCs are both computers both capable of being tweeked to your hearts content. just cause yuo dont know how to on Macs, doesnt mean it's not possible. Also.... hotrods are more tweekable than your average Veyron...that doesnt make the hotrod better in any way/shape/form.

3. To the dude who equates this article to Porsche owners having more disposible income. Cheers... i agree. while your average Toyota/Honda afficianado will defend the brand of their choice...they still *want* that Posrsche. Same applies here.

4. To the dude who thinks people who buy Apple products are just doing so due to vanity. So, your argument is that people who buy/own better looking clothes, cars, houses, etc...are doing so just cause they are 'vain' ? Get over it... No one *only* chooses a product due to the 'looks', although some people(Windows users) mostly disregard it. I wonder if the reason you chose your product is because of that particular 'image' you wanted ?

The point of these contraptions is to get people from point A to point B. The fact that Macs do so quicker(im not talking about Mhzs), with a more comfy ride(better user experience) is the main reason why Mac users choose Apple(Similar to people who choose Porsche/Merc/Audi/BMW/etc as opposed to Yugos/Hondas/Hyundais).

While many of you who cannot 'afford'(cause the price differential(if any) is an astronomical $200-$500) Macs will defend the alternative to no end, despite all the inconveniences and bumpy ride, some of us who value our time and ability to get a job done with better production values(and as a bonus look better doing it) wont worrying about such inconsequential things like "image"/"overclocking".

Also worth noting.... Apple's boxes(similar features) are not more expensive than the other PC brands(Dell, HP, etc) it competes with.

Also, many people choose Macs because they are still roughly 7-10 years ahead of the competition...... whether it be the fonts/buttons/menus in an OS(circa 1984), or home/office networking(circa 1985...thats before windows existed),or audio and speech synthesizers(circa 1984), or real-time video playback(circa 1991), or one of the first PDAs(circa 1993), or the first 'modern' OS(circa 2001...thats 8 years before Windows7), or the first online music store(circa 2004), or the first online App store(circa 2008) for smartphones, etc,etc,etc..... just seems you get what you pay for.

If someone is willing to pay ~$200-$300 less for 8 year old technology thats their choice i guess. unfortunately in the world of technology, thats what would be considered a "bad choice".

Cheers

Im not surprised. Those who usually go with apple are those who want an easy life (thus giving them extra bandwidth to own a few more CE devices) , where Apple takes care of everything.

Those who usually go with PC are (of course, partly because of monetary reasons) like the challenges and drama PC brings them. Some even loves the 'soap' and install Linux on their machines.

How come most macs come with Microsoft office? I don't deny those accomplishments, but OSX was just as buggy as Vista when it was first released, and I had the unfortunate experience of using both (granted, Apple fixed theirs while Microsoft is releasing a new one).

[citation][nom]Yoder54[/nom]What? Where did it say that? All the article said was the Apple owners have more money than other consumers and are more affluent, have more computers in their homes, and have more tech toys in their homes. What is wrong with that? Nothing wrong with making over $100k a year, owning a Benz, and have a ton of tech toys. What else you gonna do, donate your money to poor Windows users so they can buy a Mac?[/citation]

Last time I checked, being arrogant does not make someone affluent.

I have never understood the vitriol that fanbois exhibit toward other platforms. The only other time I see such lunatic ranting is when the booger-eating hicks start on about the president. I mean, really, who gives a rat's ass which platform works best for a given (other) person? Despite assertions to the contrary, platform choice doesn't imply an IQ range or that someone is chasing status or much of anything else. Hell, if I were to subscribe to that thinking, I'd be ranting about how you're ALL idiots because you don't run HP-UX. Or, at minimum, because you wear cheap watches and t-shirts that either say something or display a logo. But frankly, it does me no damage.

Bunch of Mac haters here.

All this "fools and twits spending their cash GRRRR"

Face it. If you won 20Mil tomorrow would you go blow some on 20k pc, a few exotic cars and a beautiful home?
Of course you would. So why cant I spend my money, which i didnt win. I worked hard for.... why cant i spend that on anything in any way i want?

Just finished my tax return and spend 20k last year on photography equipment alone. Thats just a hobby, i dont even get paid for it.

So sure. I choose to buy products from Leica, Mercedes and Apple. Deal with it.

I may be a fool with money, you may be a fool with no money.

[citation][nom]Article[/nom]What's more, 66 percent of Apple-owning households have three or more computers, while only 29 percent of Windows PC households can claim the same.[/citation]

I have 3 computers in my immediate reach... I almost considered buying a Mac once, so do I count?

I could go for a 50" plasma or whatever, but instead I'm going for 3 23" and a 5870... I think Iz be balling.

That was the last time you checked. Maybe Apple dashboard dictionary has a different interpretation of the word? =P
