i'm still going with we'll see one right inline with vega which is april time frame. no reason to do it before, but plenty of reason to do it right with vega to try and take and wind out of their sales.

but not paid any attention to the rumor mill in the last couple months so no idea what they are reporting now. i saw that we'd get some kind of announcement from both nvidia and amd on the same day but that's about it

generally thermals due to power draw is what keeps it from going truly small. no idea of specifics but i expect a 1080ti to use more power than the 1080 so unlikely it will get a truly "mini" card. even the Zotac 1080 mini is not exactly that mini at 211 mm. the 1070 mini by gigabyte is 169mm vs the zotac mini 1070 at over 200mm.

i'd expect a shorter card eventually, but doubt it will be any shorter than 200mm. small for the power it has but not truly "mini" in my book.

I guess something under 10" would probably fit in my case without modding now that I have a front rad in an already small case. I'm just so used to finding a three fan card I like and finding it's 12+ inches. I'm typically looking at only an EVGA at 10.5 inches and that's probably too big now with the rad.

*sigh* It may as well be a pipe dream at this point. I've been trying to wait it out - still running a 680 - don't think I can wait another month and may snag a 1080 instead.

lol the most amazing things about this? it's not the card. 6 days left on the countdown and there is not a single performance leak can be found yet. anyway i heard this will be announcement only much like the original 1080/1070 release. reviewers probably will not going to get the hardware until march.

i don't think that's gonna be an issue. it won't be stronger than a titan x and that won't do 144 hz at 4k. so highly unlikely a 1080ti will be able to approach it either. if history is any indication, then it should be about 99% of a titan x just to piss of all those folks who dropped the $1200 on one.

Jokes on the folks who grabbed a titan(or titans) solely with gaming in mind as they're not even bringing out its full potential = waste of money.
Huh... it's just like with the i7s and i5s, but the gap is larger.

Titans have been a niche product since the release of the first Kepler based Titan in 2013.

it's not really a joke since everyone knew what was coming. it's a first adopter tax plain and simple and those who buy them know it. they'll still come in and whine and pretend it was unexpected, but you can look back in this thread and see where everyone showed it was no secret.

though i would use the word fool to describe these folks. saying they were the "victim" is just not correct 😛

for gaming only purpose titan indeed silly. but for compute crowd those titan can be a steal. the titan was meant for people to upstart their project using GPGPU and when the real thing happen nvidia hope for them to replace those titans with their true tesla card. but some company actually did built their product upon titan series instead of using nvidia tesla.

I have always wondered if there's an underground circle of special nVidia power users that have means of tweaking their Titans and turn them into the big Qs.

In any case, it seems like nVidia got tired of sitting on the Titans and waiting on AMD to get Vega out, lol.

I would imagine it's safe to assume it will be a 95% Titan performer close to 140% 1080 price?

Cheers!

Ti cards have always outperformed their respective generation Titans in gaming by a bit haven't they?. Especially the custom, factory overclocked Ti cards. In fact wasn't the GTX 780 faster than the original Titan? I seem to remember my EVGA SC 780 being faster. I know my EVGA SC 980 Ti is. At least out of the box. The Titans are always clocked low.

AFAIK 1080ti should using the same core configuration as titan XP. IMO there is no reason for nvidia to use further cut down GP102 when titan XP already using cut down version of GP102. just refresh the titan using fully enabled GP102. at this point i don't think nvidia have yield issue with GP102. the chip is not really that big even by nvidia standard.

If it's the fully enabled GP102, then the new "1080TI" is going to beat the Titan; no arguing there on my part. Then the question would be price.

If it's the same cut down version with a lower clock (reference) and half the VRAM (or even the same) then the OEMs will kick it up a notch I'd say and do a rinse and repeat with previous TI versions beating the Titans with the custom cooled versions. Now, I do remember those still came with a hefty price increase. Am I wrong there?

Cheers!

The 1080Ti might be the "Black edition" fully enabled GP102, in which case it would have the same memory as the Titan XP. That used to make the Titan worthwhile to some people. I've always been of the opinion that is what they would do. Just not enough room between the 1080 and Titan XP for another grade. If they do release it as a cut down version, the price had better be amazing to compete with Vega.

GTX780 3GB, Titan 12GB, GTX780Ti 6GB, Titan Black 12GB

I'm wondering if those rumors of giving 980 Ti owners a 'step up' deal somewhat like what EVGA offers are going to be true. I won't buy a Founder's Edition card though so if that's what they offer it on I'll be disappointed.

I'd love a fully unlocked GP102 but I'm not paying more than $750-$800. $500 and a trade in and I'd order it now.

Original Titan and Titan Black were 6GB cards. 780 Ti was 3GB.
