Really! Maybe I need to have a look at some videos again but I can't imagine why. I mean you can increase icon size, text size, text on online webpage size. Anyway I think 25" might be optimal for me. Dell make them. However I think I am going to wait until Dell (zero dead pixel policy) make a g-sync 25".

Definitely gonna need a GTX 1080 to run 1440p though. 980 now is only solid 60 for 1080p for new and recent highly demanding titles.

Can anyone explain to me custom founder's edition cards? I don't understand why would Asus (for example) put their branding on a founder's edition card when those cards are made so NVIDIA can get as much money as possible before custom designs hit the market?l Shouldn't it be made directly by NVIDIA?

Yeah that can get confusing.

Ok for a minute, forget that Nvidia makes reference/founders edition cards.

NVidia creates the chips and daughterboard, meanwhile the vendors like asus, gigabyte, MSI, Zotac etc put coolers on them and sell them.

Now, NVidia has turned into it's OWN vendor. But that doesn't mean all the other vendors aren't going to sell founders edition cards. I hope that makes sense.

Also, Nvidia only sell's their own NVidia Founders card in the Nvidia store. No where else can you buy it.

Basically, with other founders edition models from asus, gigabyte etc. They all will come with that brands fancy overclocking software and other goodies, meanwhile the Nvidia's founders card doesn't come with any of that.

I am still baffled why you guys are buying nVidia's stupid excuse to get more money for free XD

Just call it "Scam Edition" or "Get More Money Edition". They are charging you for the privilege of getting a card earlier, that's it. You guys think the manufacturing costs would amount for a $100+ in a 1080, but only $50+ in a 1070? Please...

I'm pretty sure this is the work of the Marketing division and some obscure sells projections that state the big bulk of sales will stay in the first few months and then volumes would decrease. It's like a feeding frenzy of fanbois where nVidia charges more for the meat the first 10 minutes xD

Cheers!

Quite clear really, they are selling reference PCBs with aftermarket coolers for $610-620, so they are literally just bringing in some extra cash by making them more expensive. I would normally buy reference cards, but not this time.

Someone clearly doesn't know much about business. Nvidia was very clear about the pricing of the cards, but the founders have been sold out since their launch.

Hey guys any news on 1080 AIB release dates yet? I'm absolutely burning. I sold off my gtx 970 sli's 2weeks ago and now I'm left without a pc waiting for 1080 AIB releases :/.

Pro's - Sold the 970's at a awesome price before the price/interest drop on them
Con's - Can't play games lol

Even the tinniest bit of news would comfort me haha

One of the other mods got his EVGA GTX 1080 ACX 3.0 Gaming edition today. Not sure if it's the SC or the FTW version but he posted some pics and it looks great.

What about waterblocks guys? Any non founders edition cards which represent a pcb that is closely aligned that is compatible with anything EK currently has to offer? How long do you think we'd typically have to wait to hear of any further releases in regards to waterblocks and what cards will support what etc. Don't want to get burnt again in buying sli cards which held a pcb that did not fit with any waterblocks lol

And if you wondering why I don't just go with the FE edition.
1. Price
2. One power connector -.- haha

EDIT:
in case someone googles this question and is also seeking answers.

i dont know how long but if you wanted to you could easily mod the reference or even some of the aftermarket coolers with a cpu waterblock

Wow that's crazy. I'm eagerly awaiting their (1070) release in Australia and what prices they will retail for here in comparison to the GTX1080 which has the founders editions priced at $AUD1199 ($USD899) and the only non reference currently available, the gigabyte G1 gaming $AUD1139 ($USD844).

I think I'm going to can the whole idea of watercooling at this point in time and pray I pick up cards that have a compatible pcb for future blocks. I just can't put it off too long. I'm without a gaming rig atm as I cashed my cards in before their price drops lol

p.s.....for anyone else looking for information on EK waterblocks for 1080 gpu I've found answers to my own question.

very cool, i just wanna get my hands on a card first lol.

I *do* know about businesses, that is why I am baffled. They won't tell you "yeah, we're basically ripping you guys off to get some extra cash out of your pockets"; you don't need a marketing genius to tell you that is a bad idea. So, instead you make up gray area excuses/justifications for the extra price tag that hides the real costs and incentive for that price tag.

Now, nVidia just proved a marketing point for Intel, Apple and all big players: you can make extra cash from gullible individuals. Not that it wasn't known before, but it is a hard fact now.

Cheers!

Yup....I always laugh at all the lemmings when I walk past an Apple store!
