You might be correct, Seems like the GP 102 might not be the fully enabled chip.

If Nvidia releases a Pascal flagship with more cuda cores and HBM 2 than they will be able to release a ti variant.

If they release a Ti variant now that is 95% as fast as the titan with the same amount of Vram - who will they sell their titan to?

The Titan X announcement feels weird. It's like nVidia doesn't care anymore or something, haha.

In any case, read the specs closely, it won't be leaps over the 1080. Faster, but not 2x from what I can grasp from the initial specs. Also, if they can clock it over 1500Mhz I'll be surprised.

Anyway, this looks tempting: Gigabyte G1 Gaming 0160. I know there are cheaper ones (KFA for the UK market... Who are they? 😵), but that Gigabyte looks like a nice all rounder.

Cheers!

the last time nvidia really serious about dual GPU probably with GTX690. and it's quite formidable gpu that forcing AMD rethink their strategy to get the dual gpu crown with 7990.

the point of having dual gpu is to tell the world that you have the fastest gpu on the planet. it is serve as a marketing point as to why people want to get your gpu even on the low end side of things. but if you look at it closely nvidia able to sell their gpu just fine even without that dual gpu crown. for nvidia as long as they hold the single GPU crown they most likely be fine.

I might have an opportunity to sell my 970 within august, imagine if i take this opportunity and buy 1070 or even 1080 instead of waiting for an AMD counterpart but not really looking forward to buy the most premium models out there.
Zotac amp or kfa2 ex oc are the ones caught my eye, are they any good compared to say.. Msi armor x2 or gigabyte g1 models?

semi pro consumer. just like previous titan. titan x maxwell seems useless to some people because lack of FP64 performance but the card actually quite popular among compute crowd according to anandtech.

The Titan series has always straddled the line between professional compute and consumer graphics users, however if it veers too far into the former then it puts Tesla sales at risk. Case in point: at this year’s NVIDIA GPU Technology Conference, I was approached twice by product vendors who were looking for more Titan X cards for their compute products, as at that time the Titan X was in short supply. Suffice it to say, Titan X has been very popular with the compute crowd.

the new titan x will have something new for those that have interest in deep learning stuff.

ALL of Pascal cards are the same. Take the one that you fancy the most. It's all about the looks, at this point.

the boost was rated at 1530mhz. seeing how nvidia boost work ever since they first comes out with kepler i'm sure the peak boost will be well above that.

Well, the more I read about the RX 490/Vega11 rumors, I'm now starting to wonder if the TitanX is just the first step towards gearing up to counter that card. I don't mean the TitanX itself is a counter, but that it's the precursor to the GTX 1080Ti that will maintain the edge over the RX 490. This would be a repeat of the past two generations with the Titan paving the way for the Ti, all in conjunction with AMDs moves.

Well, nVidia has the advantage, so they are making the most of it, that is for sure.

AMD not realizing the important stuff they need to do sooner has been a big part in all of that. My biggest example (remember, jimmy? xD) is how they ditched VLIW for GCN. VLIW would be amazing for the middle and low range of cards. Including APUs. GCN should have been geared towards the compute high end, just like nVidia has the big chips currently. I still believe GCN has life left, but they are not removing the blocks that keep on wasting space for the markets they intend the cards to. Well, maybe now, going forward, they will get more out of GCN, but that still remains to be seen.

But oh well, that is a discussion that was done and dusted a while ago.

Cheers!

You could be right! I

If Vega is very power and cheaper than the new Titan x Nvidia might need to release a 1080 ti to counter however it seems that Vega will launch in 2017.

980 ti was a response to the Fury X in my opinion.

We've known that the Titans and Quadros were coming in August for a while. I'm surprised that the Titan bowed in before the Quadros. When the Quadros do come in, we may see the GP102 that will be the basis for the GTX 1080Ti, in the form of the P5000. Time will reveal all, so all we can do is wait.

I noticed a few pages back that there was some criticism of DirectX 12. I think the general idea stated was that it runs games slower.

However I was looking up DX12 last night. Basically because I was looking into my last queries about upgrading to Windows 10, while it's still free to. I googled about DX12 and the theory behind it is that DX 12 is meant to run faster.

Anyway no worries for me because I have DX 12 on my 980. DX 12 is still quoted though as a reason to buy 1000 series cards.

How well do you think the Titan X will overclock compared to the 1080?

"High performance engineering for maximum overclocking." - Nvidia Blog post about Pascal Titan X.

I don't think they explicitly mentioned overclocking when speaking of any of the other 1000 series cards.

The peeps on reddit and Nvidia's site are lamenting the small advantage the Titan X has over the 1080 for the price, but i'm not sure they realize it may be able to overclock much better.

AMD actually following nvidia step little by little when it comes to professional card. for example starting with Hawaii AMD also limiting their DP performance on Radeon. when it comes to DP 280X actually faster than 290X. but AMD probably don't have the money to create one chip that is designed for HPC use and then another one specifically for gaming like nvidia has been doing. also AMD market share in HPC (for compute accelerator) did not warrant them to make such move.

in theory it should be because going low level will allow you to optimize down to architecture specific. that's how console usually compensate their static hardware. Last of Us dev mention they were able to push the graphic even using that "ancient" PS3 chip because they are very familiar with it. but this kind of things will take years to happen. with the last of us it happen at the very end of PS3 life cycle. now DX12 try to bring this kind of optimization to PC. the thing is PC hardware are not static like console. by the time dev master one architecture there probably already two or three new architecture coming out for PC. also graphic card company like nvidia is very aggressive optimizing their drivers. good thing about DX12 right now is they solve the CPU bottleneck that happen with DX11.dev said the CPU aspect of DX12 is quite easy to do. but game developer readily admit that just matching GPU DX11 optimized performance is quite challenging let alone exceed them.

i think right now the only dev i think have the right mind set for this low level API probably Id software. it is a direct opposite to AoS dev that encourage developer to only do general optimization and avoid architecture specific optimization.

personally i think the blower will be one of the limiting factor in overcloking. unless they make it like this:

Hey Mr T. Would you happen to have any idea when the likes of alternate.de, case king.de, etc would be getting the EVGA SC version of the 1060 I stock? 😛 I'm in France but they look the best bet in terms of price and ability to preorder. Just thought you might be better informed than me as I don't speak German.

the evga classified 1080 is finally released. http://www.evga.com/articles/01007/evga-geforce-gtx-1080/

clocked the same as ftw for $100 more!! hoping to see a review or 2 on it but it's probably going to be the same performance as every other 1080 but for a whole lot more $$$$$

Wow, now that is pretty. :)

This 1080 should overclock noticeably better than the FTW card. Classified models have been known to have an insane amount of VRMs and all the extra trinkets for pushing overclocks. It's basically a baby K|NGP|N.

So I heard something about founders edition (FE) being out a month earlier than the normal 1070/1080's. I don't want one of these as I understand it's another $100, basically for a cool sounding name. Are we out of FE only release yet and are all the cards I'm seeing without the founders tag actually non FE cards or are there some that are stealth FE?

yah plenty of custom cards available now. stock is still low and price gouging is in full effect from many stores. but there are lots of options

see page 1 of this thread for a list of all the models, specs and reviews.
