The restriction is more on extreme voltage. Turbo boost 3 will give more fine tune voltage control but they will still within the limit allowed by nvidia to ensure product longetivity. Even if board partner still making their "extreme overclocked" card they still fall in line with nvidia allowed range of voltage. Hence the existence of modded BIOS to truly push the card to it's real limit (though they break ypur warranty 😀)

Seems reasonable for them to impose some limits given how many would blow their chips and return them for replacement in the old days. It costs a lot for them to replace our mistakes.

I think that's the main reason why nvidia impose such restriction to begin with. Some people will still overvolt their chip above recommended max value because they want their chip to overclock further. But when they burn their chip they still asking for free replacement. With restriction put in place user that do exreme overclocking will be on their own.

And i do hear funny story in regards of overclocking. There are stories about people asking for replacement just because their card did not OCed as good as their friend. The other case there are user that keep asking for replacement until he get his "golden" chip.

So 1080ti will be 2x1080? That does not sound like a smart move by nVidia, even though the 1080 does feel like they intentionally stripped it of performance. (it still is amazing, don't get me wrong)

I am really wondering how long it takes the 1080 and mostly the 1070 to be sold out after release 😀 I'm gonna wait until the reviews roll in and all of that other stuff and then ill get my 1070

Yeah I was looking at those custom cards I must have copied the wrong link 😛 But is it me or do those performance charts look a little "too good to be true"? I mean, look at the specs for the titan x and the 1070. There's a pretty big gap

specs are not everything just like with cpu's. the 1070 is newer tech and a long more bang for the buck than the titan x was. just shows how much more can be done with "less" with the new gen.

If specs meant anything AMD would be in a far better position.

yah i'm pretty sure 4k at 60 fps is not gonna be a problem with that beast no matter the settings. estimated power usage though is a lot, kind of like the current gen amd cpu's.

Has there been any definitive measurement of how much more effective the high bandwidth SLI bridge is compared to the old style bridge? May be too early...but I've always been a huge fan of SLI when it works.

Vega was originally due to be released in 2017, but there was a recent rumor that they bumped up the schedule to this October. There's been no further confirmation of that, so it's definitely still in rumor status.

Without Vega, the GTX 1080 should be be sitting comfortably alone atop the GPU performance charts for quite some time. 2017 is still a long ways off. But then Nvidia will pull out the GTX 1080Ti and AMD will once again find itself a step behind fighting for the price - performance crown within the mid-level/performance segment. Just going off past history and current news/rumors.
