That's what I mean't performance per watt is better.

Hmmm, you are right though...However, Nvidia could flip that for the mobile market.

we also know that the last 10% or so of the performance is using a good % of the overall power draw. pascal so far has been pretty aggressively clocked even for reference cards. so cutting it down a touch and dialing back the speed a little bit can have a rather high impact on power usage.

i'd not find it too hard to believe they can get it down to 150w without sacrificing too much of the performance. maybe even lower depending on the gddr5 v 5x power usage difference. that's low enough for a laptop so long as it is plugged in. as most note, these real high end laptops tend to be desktop replacements and spend the majority of their time sitting on a desk plugged in.

Did we figure out if it's worth the extra money to get the 1080 Founders Edition?

ibuypower.com and a couple other custom-PC-build sites have two 1080 cards available. I'm not sure if it's worth the extra $134:

- New! GeForce® GTX 1080 8GB GDDR5X (Pascal)[VR Ready]
- New! GeForce® GTX 1080 Founder's Edition 8GB GDDR5X (Pascal)[VR Ready] (Single Card) [+134]

..thoughts? Thanks!

First off, it is never worth it to buy something from ibuypower.

I'm too lazy to build it myself. 😱

Just wanted to chip in about the VR thing, I personally think it will take off. It passes the masses test; my girlfriend a complete luddite tried the vive and was instantly hooked. Show her a 3dtv or google glass or s lot of gadgets and its meh. VR is immersive and user friendly, it'll take off assuming prices get there.

I am literally eating my fingernails here, please help me out fellas, I will get a new computer however my price is limited. I was thinking about getting a decent CPU ( i7 6700k) and get a rx480, however when I see t1070 i felt like this should be the card, however I cant both keep i7 and 1070 together, what you guys should suggest me? I will be playing MMORPG mostly O cpu is also important i guess. I will also get a decent ssd, I can get an 16gig ram or I can remove the ram and can use my old 8gig rams, I am damn confused...

If you are going to playing games you should probably go with a 6600k and the 1070 because games don't really need those extra threads and power. With a $35 cooler (like the cryorig H7) You can OC the 6600k to 4.6 ghz

And never use old ram for a gaming system. Get the 16 gigs

If you are looking for a Founders Edition 1080 Amazon has the Zotac model in stock in the US. I have been checking Amazon and Newegg daily for 1080's since I already sold my SLI 970s and this is the first time I have actually seen one in stock that wasn't listed at $800+ from a price gouger third party seller.

I'm personally going to continue holding out for an EVGA non-founders edition card but I thought this might help someone who has been as anxious to get their hands on a new card as I have.

Edit: Right after posting this I see that Newegg has the Gigabyte Founders Edition in stock too. Like I said this is the first time I have seen any version of the 1080 in stock at either website. Maybe supply is finally starting to catch up to demand.

i5 6600k and some nice cheap 16gb sticks and ur goldennnnn never look back!

+1 MMO's dont use more than 2 cores, an i7 would not gain you anything for that $100

I will get a similar system like yours, however Cyrorig H7 is not avaliable for sale in my country, I have a seperate thermaltake contac 16, do you think would it work for oc? or can you reccommend me something cheap ?

yes, the reference cooler has trouble maintaining boost clock

how?, the reference cooler itself is insufficient to maintain boost clocks

always better to get custom cooling versions

MERGED QUESTION
Question from Wingman526 : "GTX 1080 Specs"

Alright I am sure that this question is being asked a lot but I am really curious to find a solid answer about the new GTX 1080. I have found online that the GTX requires I7 7K CPU and 16GB of ram within a system and of course a PS of 500W or more.

How critical is the CPU for this card? I currently have an is Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge Quad-Core 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo). I have 16GB of ram and an 850W power supply.

Will my CPU run this card at a degraded mode if it doesn't quite have what they recommend? Basically is this card worth buying for my build?

Thanks!!

you should be ok, it might be a little bottle necked but it's not gonna refuse to work for you :)

not sure where you heard those specs but i have not seen anything official calling for any specific hardware to pair it with. i will assume that since an i5 haswell was good enough for sli 980 ti's and such things, that the 1080 would be just as ok.

from the desk of "Something you'll NEVER have" it's kingpin with a 1080 oc'ed to 2.8 ghz at -102 degrees!!
