Mobile computers are finally becoming decent enough to run anything you throw at at it. I'll give them that. Desktops still pwn though. Nettops might be a solution for libraries. They're cheap and they...do the job.

Who the hell is nVidia? Isn't that the company that used to make decent vid cards? I kinda remember them... from the 1990s. Surprised to hear they are still around.

Why do these people in well established companies pull these "predictions" out of their rear so much. Publicity?
PC's can never die, they can change, but how the hell can my 24" screen be replaced by a super smart phone or anything these fools are imagining for example. I'm sorry but pc's can't ever be replaced until we can create and distribute in mass quantities a miniature box that projects a 20+" screen in mid air with a keyboard like interface along with it, is touch capable and has the ability to remain completely non transparent...oh, the fact that my current pc basically has unlimited power (unless power shuts off) also comes to mind. So until we have fusion batteries...I would kindly ask him to stfu

I won't count on that. I say the desktop will stay on homes. Till we can control our weather here on earth maybe we can say its mobile, so in the future mobile computing is like after the storm thing.

I m sure someone must have said "consoles is The Future"!!! LOL still majority of gamers are still with the PC ..PC is and always will b Goddess among people !!!!

He's right you know. Most people don't need a desktop computer and as mobile phones and tablets get more powerful there will be less need for notebooks and netbooks as well. That will raise the prices of workstations and gaming machines and after a while only hardcore gamers and professionals will want them. However since the user base is much smaller, developers will stop making PC games altogether.

Oh well, we'll always have Crysis...

Well, nVidia should focus on their own future, for if they keep designing power hungry cards (GTX 460 was a welcome change), they won't be there to see the future whatever it is.

[citation][nom]ern88[/nom]Ya, Can't wait to make presentations with power point. Should be easy to do on a mobile screen. NVIDIA=F A I L ! ! ![/citation]
Well, he didn't say about abandoning projectors! 😛

[citation][nom]kuleto[/nom]Eventually maybe in like 20-30 years maybe we'll will plug in our phones into a thingy that'll give it more processor cores, GPUs, memory, storage, and a nice huge display of some sort. I could see that, and having enthusiast docks and casual user docks, etc. I dont think a little phone can totally replace the pc though. I can see the PC being transformed though.[/citation]

More processor cores, GPUs, memory, storage and a huge display? In short you'll be connecting your phone to a PC :). Kinda makes the smartphone pointless IMHO.

[citation][nom]theguy82[/nom]...PC's are on their way out. Maybe for the 16 year old girls that do nothing but tweet.[/citation] Or 28(?) year old guys who do nothing but bleat.

"For Nvidia, coming from a PC perspective to the world of mobile, we really see the benefit of the open approach versus that of a closed one,"

Whilst I agree the days of PC's are numbered I take issue with his comments regarding proprietary software vendors. Microsoft is no more or less open than Apple. Ever heard of DirectX Mr. Neil Trevett? Why didn't Nvidia exclusively release OpenGL only GPU's and force games developers to be platform agnostic?

We'll just have to wait and see when and if Google start slapping lawsuits on start-ups or competitors who squish the clay when treading on their painted toes. I trust Google have no patent applications as patents are evil and Google doesn't do evil.

but here is something : mobile smartphones have mobility , which means lot more options and a better applicability of any application itself . PC were more personal than Shared workstations , and now , mobiles are going to become the Mobile PC , or MPC of tomorrow .

the pc's use will be eliminated for things that can be moved to the mobile . except for my favourite thing , gaming . unless portable virtual reality shows up !!

[citation][nom]obiown77[/nom]When Mobile reaches the point where it's infact a chip implanted in my brain providing all visuals directly to the visual cortex, I make calls via a thought speaking directly into the thoughts of others, all my fps/mmorpg gaming becomes a virtual holodeck all within my own min, at the same time working parallel with my natural brain thus making me turn blue, then perhaps yes, the pc will phase out.[/citation]

IRONMAN!!
