Here is verbatim what microcenter says specifically on this launch in their FAQ:

Will there be purchase limits for the RTX 5090 and 5080?

Yes, to ensure as many customers as possible can purchase a card, there will be a limit of one per customer.

What measures is Micro Center taking to ensure fair distribution?

To ensure fair distribution, sales are limited to in-store purchases only, with a one-per-customer limit on launch day.

How will Micro Center handle lines and purchases on launch day?

To ensure a smooth and fair process, Micro Center will use a voucher system on launch day. Vouchers will be distributed to customers in line on a first-come, first-served basis shortly before the store opens. A voucher guarantees you the ability to purchase a GPU, but it does not guarantee a specific model or manufacturer

Right.
In-store.
To only those who have a MC close by.

All the other retailers...Newegg, Amazon, etc...scalper bait.

North Americans are unbelievable.. no one in they right mind would accept paying more for something than it actually costs, specially in a scenario where it's actually more like a hostage/ransomware situation. Does it feel good to get something even if you sell your soul for it? I think not. For all of you USA people all I gotta say is this.. stop feeding the troll

And yes I am talking about scalpers

Best Buy was fairly successful warding off scalpers during the last crypto bubble. It didn't prevent scalpers from buying, that's impossible, but they put a long delay in the purchasing process, so it prevented one person with a script from plowing through their inventory giving more people the chance to land cards.

No matter where you put the line...normal people can't get there fast enough.
If people could just be patient these things wouldn't be an issue. You don't have one today, what is the big deal waiting a few more months? I suppose if you were older or had an illness, but for everyone else, just be patient and the scalper issue takes care of itself.

EVGA did actually take preorders. It took them over 6 months to clear the queue, and well, they aren't really in business anymore.
So what you are saying is that EVGA sold every single card they could get their hands on for 6 months and then divested from selling graphics cards because it was not worth it. If you are implying that the system they put in place lead to their decline you do not understand the business model Nvidia has put in place with their AiB partners.

Why wouldn't they? If they can net a $5000 profit for 3 days camping, that's over $1600 / day. Sounds worth it to me.
No one is going to buy an already overpriced gpu that is linearly 30% minimally more expensive and 30% more power hungry than a 4090 for $5000 net profit. I don't see it. From what I am hearing the ai performance on average is also lackluster outside a few outliers. I guess the joke is on the them at this point . Maybe these are Nvidia employees that attempting to cause mass hype and hysteria. Let's face it these 5090 is not what we all hope it would be!

With the 4090 selling for $2000 or more for a while, the market says you are wrong. The 5090 isn't over priced. That said, it certainly isn't worth $7000, and the market will show that as well.

What, and give up all that free publicity?

This has happened multiple times. GPUs, playstations, iPhones, etc, etc.
True but this time Nvidia is orchestrating the shyte show. They stopped the 4000 series supply, The are the ones creating fud about the mass shortages to create and cause more hysteria. It's literally the only play they have because largely everyone already figured out thier marketing multi frame generation is bs!
Let's face it majority of us will not buy scalped and will just wait until the whales are satisfied. Hold the line!

Last month or so before the supply dried up the 4090s were selling for $1700 according to Pcpartpicker. 2 months ago Lenovo was selling the 4090 suprim liquid for $1599 . Nvidia definitely wants you to focus on end of life supply pricing of the 4090 and not the 95% of life on the market averaging around $1700 to $1800. The market rejected the >$2000 for the 4090 past year this time when Nvidia attempted to price hike the 4090. So there is that. Many are saying a great price for the 4090ti is $1600. So $2000 and up is already a big ask!

If you can name the specific model, that wasn't the typical price. GPU's aren't sold to AIB's on monthly contracts, there is no way for Nvidia to increase prices in response to market conditions. They can announce higher prices, but all the product is already in the channels and they won't see any additional money from those cards.

MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 24GB GDRR6X 384-Bit Boost Clock: 2625 MHz HDMI/DP Nvlink Tri-Frozr 3 Ada Lovelace Architecture OC Graphics Card (RTX 4090 SUPRIM X 24G) | Amazon price tracker / tracking, Amazon price history charts, Amazon price watches, Amazon price drop alerts | camelcamelcamel.com https://search.app/FUJxxXk8B8ZaXDFG7

This is top of the line aib partner card price history. The only vendor that went above 2k is Asus for 4090. They are doing the same thing now with their Astral line and gets destroyed by Suprim 5090 at $400 less.
Nvidia is charging a premium for frame generation let that sink in. The numbers is already inflated. The scalpers will probably be the last ones holding the bag outside a few foolish suckers in my outlook!

Microcenter make a effort to make it hard on the scalpers. Last time they did this is was a limit of 1 per person per month. I saw some guy arguing that he was using a different credit card even though they had his name and address. He thought his business could buy a second one.

The one near me change the rules when 3090 was the issue. They outlawed camping out over night and started to post a code on the door 1 hour before it opened. Everyone would get the code and enter into a online drawing. They would then come out and announce the names.

It is not unusual to see a line at microcenter on just your average Saturday when they open.
