LOL... so I guess this means the price won't drop on the GTS 450.

The article doesn't make a whole lot of sense in its logic. Nvidia is going to release a $100 card to rain on AMD's parade? :)

The only thing that would matter for the AMD new launch is dropping the 460 down by $30+.

[citation][nom]liquidsnake718[/nom]WHY? wHEN THE 5850 AND 5870 ARE STILL SO SO SO GOOD.... WHAT A WASTE...[/citation]

Seriously though, WTF dude.

[citation][nom]Darkerson[/nom]I seriously doubt either of those card are gonna rain on AMD's parade. What are we gonna hear next? Nvidia renaming half their current 4XX series to 5xx so they can trick people into thinking they having something "new" to compete against AMD's new offerings? It wouldnt surprise me one bit, I mean seriously, how many times was the 8800 renamed before they finally made something truly new?[/citation]

do nvidias credit, they had a hell of a card, and didn't need to, ati (at the time) was still playing catch up for quite a while.
[citation][nom]Proxy711[/nom]Why would you want a 480? well i guess if your motherboard doesn't have sli. because 2 460s in sli beat a 480 in every way but slightly more watt usage. some sites report its only a 15watt difference at 100% load. 480s in sli is just a huge waste of money. even if it dropped 100 dollars its still a waste. use that extra 500 for a good SSD that will help more then having 2 480s when your monitor cant display more then 60fps or 120fps if you have a 3d monitor.[/citation]

some people are willing to pay the extra money to never go under 60fps. but lets be honest here, if you have money to sli two 480s you have a 2560 x 1600 monitor money, and even on cards today maxing at that resolution can dive down into the 50-60fps range, and even than, lower once you factor in the possibility of 3d or multiple monitors.

actualy where is most of the money made in graphics cards, as in cards sold?

the appearance of a new line with nvidias marketing could up atis party of dominance a bit, but only till the 6xxx low ends launch

It seems many of you are very confused. While high end cards are nice to look at, the majority of actually cash is been made on the low-mid priced cards. So while a NVidia 430 may not seem like very exciting news when compared to the release of the AMD 6000 series…. It does offer competition in the price range where NVidia has been getting its clocked cleaned (low-mid range). And before someone calls me a NVidia fanboi, my rig is all AMD, and I own a 5870 and would love a 6870, however since my 5870 is only 6 months old it’s not economical for me to upgrade it at this time… I’ll wait on the real 6000 series cards at 28nm…not a 45nm hybrid which is just a stop gap measure to keep NVidia at bay.

If NVIDIA wants to ruin an Ati Party, they'll need more than a price drop on a midrange product to counter a mid range launch of their rival. NVIDIA has better software & drivers. Lowering prices & offering a sweet piece of software although could.

Well: an nvidia launch the same day as AMDs, is at least some measure worse than a no nvidia at all. No matter it it were nvidia branded lollipops. That's how it rains on AMD.

BTW, could we stop with the "i'm happy, more competition means lower prices" grandma's club cliché?

Though I don't really care about the 430, the 460 is a pretty good buy. I can't wait to see what performance/price the new amd cards will be at.

[citation][nom]mayankleoboy1[/nom]at least a quad SLI of gts430 vs. hd6870........not bad NVIDIA[/citation]

errr... so spend $100 x 4 cards = $400 + $200~300 for a board with 4 16x PCIe slots + 650~700 watt PSU... vs a single $400 video card that isn't out yet?

Nvidia's news won't amount much, and it maybe a paper launch... AH RIGhT... we'll introduce our bottom end card - while the OTHER guys releases their next-gen product. Its a joke, it would be BETTER for Nvidia to release the GF430 a few days before or after.

And so-what if/when Nvidia lowers the price of the 460/450 cards... AMD still has better margins with the 5850 even if it sold for $175. I hope AMD does sell the 6750 for $150 and the 6770 for $180 (or less)... that would kick Nvidia in the nuts, again. Nvidia does need to get more competitive, we'll see. AMD may slow-down with the 7000 series and NviDia's GeForceFX GTX-R 770 will punch AMD in the face, just you wait and see!

Well the GF100 part was 529.17 mm2 40nm 3 Million SMOKING transistors that chewed enough power to make the lights dim, and probably never made a dollar due to the size of the die (defects / speed / numbers of good die's produced).

The GF104 part is 331.54mm2 (GTX460)

The GF106 part is 238.6 mm2

The GF108 part is 126.51 mm2 and launches on the 13th of September.
It is 627 million transistors and targets the lower end of the market and there is a notebook (low power) version being binned.

It is designed to compete agains the AMD 5600 series.

the 28nm line will be the 7xxx, the 6xxx line is incorporating things for the 28nm process while using the 45.

isnt that exactly what amd is doing? based on leaks 6870 is not that much faster than a 5850..............

[citation][nom]ohim[/nom]Sarcasm, you don`t get it.[/citation]
The guy's only joking... He does that sometimes... You should see his post on the forum; "unobtainium"?.. Sarcastically hilarious! It took me a few seconds to digest the meaning... un-obtain-ium... Get it?

ATI cards suck, they can release series 7000 as far as i am concern they still suck especially crossfire cause their drivers are utter crap. Stick with GTX480 or GTX480SLI setup.

Who said anything about wanting ONE 480? Sure 2 460s are faster than a single 480, but what about 2 480s?

I'm not in any rush though, it's not like I have the money to buy the 3 1080p monitors for this system I don't yet own...but I'm just saying if the GPUs didn't cost $1000 that would help a tad 😉

Add in one more 6870 and those 430x4 would be done and you would be stuck having to upgrade all 4 of your cards to catch up 😛

While certainly this isn't going to rain on AMD's parade I think people are getting a bit too emotional about this. So Nvidia is releasing a low end card while ATI is releasing the next gen (or should I now say current gen?)
Let's ignore the fact that this is just a rumor first of all and may not be entirely accurate. So lets assume its all true I highly doubt Nvidia is thinking that they are going to steal any sales by releasing a low end card when AMD is releasing a high end. No one interested in a high end GPU is going to look at a new low end and buy that instead. Nvidia knows this they aren't stupid. For all we know the release date itself could have been pure coincidence after all if both were shooting for a October there is a 1 in 31 chance of it happening which is not shocking if it does.

The new card and a price drop might take away a few headlines/sales from AMD, but I still think the release of the 6000 series will be AMD's day. Whether or not that continues will be determined by actual performance. Since we have yet to see any benchmarks or verifiable charts, I'll withhold judgment on the 6000 series vs Fermi until the actual launch.

I have bought NVIDIA and ATI. I started with ATI again when I bought an 4850 at low cost and great performance. I choose to stick with ATI only due to the fact NVIDIA had such jacked up prices. Was charging way too much for a performance card. And it is just sticking with me. They wanted to jack my wallet, well I'm still P.O'd about it. I will switch back one day, but I'm making NVIDIA learn their damn lesson.

[citation][nom]reynod[/nom]http://www.brightsideofnews.com/ne [...] 2c-ca.aspxHere is the card from Galaxy being retailed from the 11th.96 cuda cores, 700Mhz, DDR3.I agree with the author, it won't beat the GTS250 (128 Cuda cores, 738Mhz,DDR3) unless there are some magic monkeys inside.[/citation]

From a gaming performance point of view... it does look pretty bad. However 96 fermi CUDA cores will probably crunch numbers better than the 250.

Heh, and the 430's being priced at $109???? This is the price the 450 needs to be at in order to move large numbers.
