$650? Where?

Newegg is showing 7 options for the 6990 and just 2 for the 590. Not hard to sell out when you don't ship very many cards and the list prices are all $699 to $739.

Kevin, this article reads more like an ad than a news story.

[citation][nom]Marco925[/nom]I guess alot of people were waiting for that. wow.[/citation]

They've been waiting since the 5970 came out. So yeah, a lot of pent up demand and all ^_^. It also celebrates with you ..... like a firecracker

no speculation on prices or rebates here in rainy britain, 590 costs almost £600 ($950 / €680) 6990 ain't too cheap either, retailing for over £500 ($800 / €570) 20% vat is a killer on expensive pc parts 🙁 about the best we get for $650 (£450) is a pair of 2gb 6950's, certainly not dissapointing, but does it match up to a 590? shame really, i've always been a nvidia fan but thier asking prices for the ability to power 3x 1920x1080 are just too high over here atm. i think i'll be switching over to ati once my 3rd monitor is ordered.

[citation][nom]howiejcee[/nom]If I were to build a new PC right now, which I'm not since I'm waiting for Z68, I'd also buy this over the 6990.Reasons:Better driversLower noiseSimilar performance in generalI don't mind paying a little more due to power consumption.[/citation]

Better drivers that cause fail-safes fail and card catch on fire. I think nvidia fanboys can at this point stop talking about better drivers. This is not the first time nvidia drivers cause card overheat and be destroyed. I would be at least pretty pissed off if my 700$ card would be burnt because of bad drivers and "silent" cooler. And being more quiet is just matter of AIB partners to put heavier custom coolers. HD6990 is faster in resolutions and settings that matter in this ultra high-end class. But these GTX cards are meant for nvidia fanboys, not for people who buy best and fastest hardware.

[citation][nom]tavix[/nom]Please, show me 1 site, just one, that sels the card for 650$ without taxes. JUST ONE!!![/citation]
Sounds like he got his wires crossed. I can't see why NVIDIA would be able to undercut the 6990.

I wish the drivers complaints would be put to bed once and for all. AMD can certainly write drivers, and they have more frequent releases than NVIDIA so they can react to issues quicker. The 11.4 drivers introduce a whole host of performance increases which should also please people. If the complaint is solely about CrossFire, AMD have certainly come a long way over the past few months.

Please Tom's, when you give us the specs throw in the recommended power supply needed too. Last time I checked a couple weeks ago the one dual GPU AMD monster recommended a 1,100 watt supply for best performance (newegg).
Newagg shows two GTX 590 cards, a ASUS at $700 and a EVGA at $729 both out of stock.
The ASUS tells nothing about power but the EVGA says this:
Minimum 700W or greater system power supply (with a minimum 12V current rating of 50A)

But don't try to overclock it..It'll go KABOOM..

So they freely admit that they only produced a few thousand and then trumpet up that they all sold out.

Well done, big round of applause you frikken retards...

This is not a big success unless "sold out" comes with "massive uptake"

It's no use calling these people retards, or fools, because, unfortunately, they have more money left over, even after this luxury purchase, than most of us have left over buying measly $220 cards. They have money, let them part with it as they wish. If I had an extra $100K floating around, you better believe I would splurge on 3way GTX590 and then some.

[citation][nom]lp231[/nom]Unless you're running at insane resolution, this card is a total waste. You can probably tell majority of the buyers has more money than brains and they buy it to run their games at 1024x768![/citation]Yes, that is the purpose of this card to run at high resolution and probably at Quad-SLI? hence if you bought it to run at 1024x768 it would be a waste for you but is equally brain dead to assume everyone who bought one would be running it at low resolutions?

You will never find more than two versions of the GTX 590 for sale in the United States because only EVGA and Asus are authorized to sell them in the U.S.

Anyone thinking of buying a 6990 needs to consider that it has been running on faulty drivers for close to a month, while Nvidia has had at least three driver releases in the first week of the GTX 590 release.

The other point is, we have no idea how many 6990's were produced relative to the 590. It could easily be that the 590 is outselling the 6990. I wouldn't be surprised since the majority of reviews I have read clearly recommend the 590 over the 6990, if nothing else, just due to the excessive noise issue. Any presumed performance advantage for the 6990 is washed away by that simple fact.

Didnt Nintendo do this with the Wii? The only way to gauge the sucess of this 590 release in hard numbers VS past cards and VS the AMD cards. I mean your telling me that for 1-2 years Nintendo couldent catch up with demand? No way they just new that the fact of Wii's always being in short supply meant they get to keep prices up and make it seem like there is this crazy Wii demand for 2 years. How about just making a product so awsome that you could release 10mil cards and still sell out?
