Question NVME slow read speed that causes lag during gaming

Hi, I recently started to have lag during my gaming sessions that I didn't have before. I'm mostly playing Cyberpunk 2077 and Fallout 4. I tried to identify where that could come from and I noticed that when the lag append, disk usage is at 100% and response time of the disk skyrockets to hundreds and sometimes thousand of Ms while read speed are at 1 or 2 MB/s . I don't understand why because i only have my games running on that disk (Teamgroup MP33).

Maybe someone can help me find and solve this issue.

Computer specs:
Windows 11 - 23H2
r5 5600x
RTX 3070ti
32GB DDR4
OS drive: 500GB Samsung 970 EVO PLUS
Game drive: 1TB Teamgroup MP33 M.2

Thanks,
Rick

Although your D: drive is only half full (48% free), perhaps the drive controller is performing "wear levelling" housekeeping tasks in the background.

Alternatively, do the games require frequent writes/reads to/from the disk? Check disk activity in Resource Monitor.

Is your CPU bottlenecking during intensive gaming.

no there's not seems to have frequent writes, but the queue length is at 5 or 10 during the lag and goes back to like 0.05 after.

CPU is around 50-70% while playing cyberpunk

Post a screenshot from ....crystal disk info....for both disk.
Here is with a screenshot of the crystaldiskmark result. I also added a screenshot of task manager while the problem occurring.

It is not guaranteed to show exactly what is going on, but in resource monitor it should show you processed are using what.

As far as all the tools are concerned it seems to be reporting as a healthy drive, but that doesn't guarantee the drive is in good shape.

I'm looking for a new SSD. I'm currently hesitating between the Crucial P3 PLUS or the Teamgroup MP44. I'm not sure if I want to go back with Teamgroup given the problems I'm having with my MP33. Do you have any advice or SSD suggestions? I'm looking for 1TB or 2TB under 150$CAD. Thanks

Finally got a chance to look through and there's definitely nothing showing up alarming there in the least as far as what's being utilized. If gaming is the only time you're noticing then there's really only two things I can think of at this point to do:
  1. verify file integrity on the games just to make sure you're not dealing with a data corruption type issue
  2. move one of the games over to your primary drive just to make sure the issue isn't being replicated here
I checked on a couple of my drives and even loading games never got above 10ms in resource manager so something is certainly not operating correctly.

As for replacing the drive with something new I think Crucial is a decent choice. Others in that general price range would be the Solidigm P41 Plus and WD SN770. If you wanted to prioritize performance the 1TB Crucial T500 and WD SN850X would be decent choices.

I don't know if it's normal but during the verification of the integrity of the game, reading speed ups and downs continuously like that: View: https://imgur.com/a/a6V2xk4
( sorry I put my OS back in French since it's my first language)
I double checked on my system doing a verification on Borderlands 3 as it was the only thing big I have installed on EGS: it barely moved up and down and my response time never broke 10ms. While my setup is faster than yours the behavior should be somewhat similar so there's definitely something wrong with the drive or system in some fashion.

I played for about 1h and no problem with the the game on the C: drive, so it very look like my MP33 drive isn't working right. I just found my warranty invoice and the drive is 4years old. I will send an email to Teamgroup support to see if they can replace it on warranty. Thanks for all the help!
