I've got an Athlon X2 3800+, Asus A8N32-SLI, 2x1 gig Kingston Value RAM ECC, eVga 7800GTX

and I'm getting any where from 30-60fps@1280x1024 on Ultra Hight settings

My system : P4 3.2 Ghz, 1GB Kingston HyperX, XFi Fatal1ty, 9800 Pro... I get about 30-60 fps but thats @ 640X480 if I go with a higher res its too choppy 🙁 but I must say its the best looking 640X480 I have seen in a long time LOL

Don't mess with the .ini file.

Seriously, if it plays well, play it, if it plays well from the start you'll be fine later. Remember the opening scenes are mild useage, once you actually get the the gates of Oblivion in Kvatch you will regret messing with anything IMO. I changed rez, but only to match WS format, and I also overclocked my card a bit to be sure about the gates. Now I run at stock no problemo.

Can someone send me a screen of the settings?
Here is a short video showing the in-game video slider settings.

Also, check tweakguides once in a while as they are currently working on a tweakguide for oblivion. http://www.tweakguides.com/

Hey nice finds.

I love how they were enabling HDR and Bloom, clicked through the warning.

I also found it interesting with the Tweakguide bluurb about how difficult it'll be since it's so complex and so many variables. At least some people get that fact.

Sure my PCMCIA Audigy caused me problems, but 30mins to tweak (basically uninstall/reinstall drivers) and voila fixed.

I'd like to see what the final tweak guide looks like because I have a feeling it's going to be like 2-4 times the size of most games.

i have been playing this game for two days now and it looks great
vivid like far cry bright too more color than bf2
i first played it on my brothers sys [msi sli board with 3500clawhammer
4 512s corsair value select and x800xl with an lcd flat panel]
and then on my sys asus 32sli deluxe with 1 6800gt 3700 sandy
running at 2.61 and 4 512 corsair xms and a dell crt monitor
it seems much more colorful and brighter on mine and seems a little smoother probably the 3700 over the 3500 and probably i think
the crt is the biggest diff although after playing on mine i see that
my 6800gt is at 110c that is like 230 degrees f which is cooooking
but it plays fine the same with bf2 fear and farcry
also im going to hook it up to my hd 32inch sony and see how it looks
i run at 1024by 768 on the dell monitor and i want to see if i can
bump up the resolution on the hd tv.
i have never hooked my comp up to my tv

That could be two things, first IMO CRT > LCD for colour, period.

Second, you probably are playing with HDR enabled, and he's probably playing with bloom enabled. I noticeable differences between the two. I saw it switch back and forth between the 2 on the X1600P and it looks pretty nice at times (especially outdoors in the snowy regions).

when i first loaded the game it set high quality and hdr enable
i played for a while and it looked colorful and i did notice nice shadows
then my brother wanted me to swicth to aax4 i cant do both
i hear none of the nvidia can ecept i think the x1900 can
when i went aax4 and disabled hdr all shaows were off but it still
looked good
any way i would like to see what resoulotions my 32 sony wega will do
its a 200 pound crt 4.3 that displays hd at widescreen and 1080i
while my dell crt will only do 480p so i dont know
i guess ill find out this weekend
maybe see if it will do 1600 x 1200 or something

do u guys notice considerable frame dips when u pull out a torch? i go from 60 to 20 fps once i pull out a torch. remind u of doom 3??? sacrifice your weapon for vision..

Unfortuatly Bethesda disabled HDR+AA, it's only available on the Xbox.

Well it's a little different unfortunately. It is 1920x1080, but it will only do half the screen at a time 1920x540 painting alternate fields. Not sure how well that will work with the graphics card, may be way too much.

I'm looking forward to it also; I like that site. Your right, time spent and length wise it should be a huge tweakguide.

I actually left the details as the game autodetected, which was 10x7 high with HDR. But I disabled HDR and found that 4Xfsaa and bloom had higher fps. But once getting outside I quickly reduced FSAA to 2X and even so I am seeing some fps in the low 20's during multiple npc battles outside. I'm sure that's why that stinkin conjuror and her Clannifers whipped my butt a couple nights ago. I mean, it had to be the low fps as I am a macho Arena Warrior now.

It's time to OC the card to get that more playable becasue as you said, fps get lower later in the game. Stock BFG speed is 425/1100. I can run a 3dmark at 435/1210 before artifacts, but don't like to game over 425/1180 as I pass the cards down to spare rigs and want it to last. I'd say I OC less than 25% of the time while gaming with the 6800U. Still enjoying the game although I didn't get to play yesterday.

X2 4200+, X850, 2Gig RAM

1024X768, 2XAA, all details default I get up to 90 fps. But it can drop to as little as 30. But very well playable and still looking great. GC though heats up to 90 degrees...🙁

I HATE YOU ALL!
Im in the final year of my 3D animation course and Im not buying it untill I finish in about a month and a half.
If I buy it before then I fail my course I know I will not be able to control myself morrowind took over my life when that came so oblivion will be even worse.
But at least gfx card prices might have come down a bit when I do get it so I can run it well.
Grrrr

Yeah, when not outside, I am seeing fps over 100, but occasional drops in the 20's outside are more and more frequent. Especially when battling multiple creatures outside in say a ruin.

this scares me so much with my system...

Am I even gonna be able to play it?

Are the medum settings still "pretty"?

I played FEAR on low settings with my new X800 and it looked like the time I played Half Life 1 on my onboard graphics card...

Is Oblivion going to be this bad?

Games Fun. Graphics are great.

I have a Pent D 920, 2 gig ram, and 6800GS (475/1.1). The game auto detected me at High quality. I uped the res to 1280, and put on HDR.

In cities i get fps between 25 - 30. Dungeons ~50. Outside 15-25.

For the most part its playable however definitely not as smooth as games like HL etc. I did one quest in an "ice" themed area. There were intense bloom effects, transparency effects (ice), and my fps dropped to the high single digits.

This game kinda has me wanting to use evga's step-up and get a 7900 GT...ill have to decide in the next month. This is mainly because i want to play at highest quality @ 1280.

Verdict: 6800 GS plays the game, but you obviously won't be able to play at max settings. On high settings, most of the game is playable, but some areas (lots of foliage or special effects) get choppy.

Be sure to do the ini tweak to zoom the camera out a bit when talking to NPCs. No performance hit or anything. I just got annoyed with how close you were to their face.

Sup ppl!

I'm still waiting for Oblivion to release in ZA, but can some one please tell me how playable it is in 3rd person?

My girlfriend loves RPG, but gets sick because of 1st person (motion sickness)... Is there any stuff to try and counter motion sickness in 1st person games?

There is a definate framerate hit (3-5fps) going to third person. I'd imagine getting more sick leaving it in third person(indoors) and agree with your aiming comment. I only use the third person when travelling around in the open and to jump onto obstacles. When in shops, battles, and caves, or trying to pick up something, I like first person for sure. I do like the way you can change the point of view as well as zoom in and out in third person, as well as how easy it is to switch between first and third.

It's just so damn sad that my girl can't play FPS games, poor woman! She gets almost green....

There's a GREAT joke there, but I'll reluctantly leave it alone since I don't know how touchy you'd be.

I assume you've tried different resolutions & refreshes?

Something you might want to consider is to change the Field of View. Ovblivion's FOV is like 90deg IIRC, whereas most are 70-75. Perhaps less (like 50-60deg) would help because there'd be less of the landscaping moving/panning/scrolling and more of what's directly in front of her, of course it may look faster which may exacerbate the problem, and if that's the case maybe an even wider FOV (110+) would help.
