OC Q6600 stress testing help

First of all, I'm a noob at this. Just read the sticky guide and OC'd it to 3 GHz, and now I am stress testing at 1.35v with prime95. 2 Cores have failed so far in 15 mins, saying this:

FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4.

2 are still running and the temp on those is about 70 C which if I understand correctly is a bit high.
Any help on how to solve the error and how to decrease the temp a bit would be appreciated,

PS I do not know what kind of cooling I have, It's a big metal air-cooler-thing witha giant fan on the side of it if that helps.

Alrighty! Lets start with the usual. Down Load and run the program Core temp. It will list your VID, and you can list it here!

Then you can Down Load CPUz... Do you mean you selected 1.35000 in the Bios as your Core Voltage?

What type of equipment do you have? MoBo, RAM, Vid card, power, etc.

70c is a bit high, but not to bad while testing.

Did you do any work on the comp yourself? Maybe you should re apply thermal paste and re seat the heat sink?

Also, what settings you changed to get to 3.0 would help as well.

I think you are using stock intel cooler, throw that junk away if you plan to OC at all.

I have Coretemp and CPUz already, VID= 1.3125
1.35 in Bios, says Core voltage: 1.304 in CPUz.

Mobo: Asus P5KC
RAM: PATRIOT PDC22G8500ELK 4*1GB
Vid card: 8800GTS 300-something mb
Power: Some built-in Antec. 500W

Also, I now have the memory speeed set to 667 making it 1:1 to FSB apaprently(333), if that matters.

Core 0 has hit a max of 72 degrees during the 15 minute 100% load testing.

Looks dusty/bad airflow/too many wires in the way.

Re seat your HSF and apply AS-5.

Wow, is that TRUE??? Thats the Fan holding clip of one!!! Does it have a weird cross out 4 arm thingie that you screw down to hold it in place?? Looks like an "X"??

Awesome! Pull that thing off some time when you get the chance, and take a pic of the cleaned surface that contacts the top of your processor!

You should have waaaayyyyy low temps with that monster.

Your VID is high, just like every one else who has gotten a retail chip in the past few months.

You are gonna need more VCore to be stable.

it looks like the q6600 now is all VID 1.325V i aint buying one anymore.

Why? You can get a low VID online if your lucky.

This PC is "old", about a year if that matters.
Whats HSF?
I'll see if I can find some AS5 around here, no idea on how to use it though.
I got rid of most dust recently(before taking that pic).
Also, how much core voltage would yopu guys recommend(in bios)?

yeah exactly!lower VID IF you are LUCKY!

the easiest way is to up the vcore the 1.5V(NO MORE!!!) and then after you achieve your target speed then you do the minimising vcore.

or you can do the other way round which is longer.

Okay, so increase to 1.5, to start with.
What do you mean by "achieve target speed"? Getting it stable?

what speed the chip can go or you feel comfortable enough.

It always help to not OC the ram and run it on it's rated speeds. This way you can pretty much assume the ram is not causing any issues.

probably remount the cpu heatsink, you shouldn't be getting those temps with the TRUE, unless the fan has low cfm.

what he mean at rated speed is the default speed.the typical speed is ddr2-800 cas 5-5-5-18@1.8V

It's 5-5-5-9 , and I have voltage on auto for RAM. I will look at the heatsink stuff later, though I have no clue on how to do it hehe 😉

Stepping revision. G0 is better than B3. It takes less power which means less heat which means better OCing. A 3.2GHz B3Q6600 is like a 3.6GHz G0Q6600.

with a G0 it should be able to do 3.0ghz on stock volts or one or two above stock volts.
