I've run into a bit of a problem. I removed the heatsink just to look, and then put it back on. Now I have to start my PC 10 times to get it to boot once, and that one time I get "overclocking failed" and have to "load default settings to continue". It's running fine but it's not OC'd at all.
Any ideas?

that is weird. you only get that for wrong or unstable setting in OC.try reset the BIOS and then start again since you got a general idea what to do and a basic bottom line to start with:)

I just reset BIOS and OC'd with same settings as before, and its working fine again. I set vCore to 1.5V firsst but then windows didnt start so lowered to 1.45 booted fine. Running Prime95 now for 5-10 mins no errors so far, max temp is at 65 atm, not sure why its lower than before with more vcore?
Btw, what kind of test should I run? Atm Iäm ring large fft, and it says 4000 L-L iterations several times, is that correct?

Oh, real fan says 65 and coretemp 71, sorry about that. Is 71 too high for 100% load? I mean, I wont ever actually have 100% load while doing anything right( I dont play games on this pc, just standard stuff + hd movies)?
Also, now I have DRAM at 667 Mhz and 5-5-5-9, should I change any of those settings?

put cpu multi to 8 from 9.then up the fsb to 400.up the NB by 1 notch then up the memoery timing to 5-5-5-18 with 2v.the rest leave it on auto.i dont want you to toucht all the referencing voltage yet.

oh up the CPU 2 more notches as well just be on the safe side.

The memory is rated @ 2.3v! There is nothing wrong with running DDR2 memory at 2.2v it is the highest recommended setting for regular use if it is needed. Obviously if it is not needed then lower it yet, and if the manufacturer rates it higher then it is fine to take 2.3v! 2.3v is the MAXIMUM that DDR2 should ever use, but that is only if it is rated at that high of voltage and patriot memory generally likes to play up in the higher voltage areas.

Now for 5-5-5-9 timings on 667mhz there is no need for 2.2v (in most cases), but your reaction to seeing that high may have startled the OP (since he said he was a noob lol). I just wanted to clarify that there was nothing truly wrong with that setting and that you didnt damage anything.

Okay, I just edited some of the stuff you said, 5-5-5-18 . 400 FSB x8, C1E off.
Had some problems as the pc failed to boot with 2V on ram, so I had to set it to 2.2V to get it to boot again. Also, I did not change CPU or NB voltage now, will do that after you reply cause I dont know what to put on NB since its on Auto now.
There are these options for NB voltage:

1.25
1.40
1.55
1.70

Which one?
And CPU from 1.45 to 1.475 right?

1.40v on the NB should be fine. If it isnt then you can try for the 1.55 (last resort imo), but I wouldnt touch the 1.70v.

1.45v I would think would work on the CPU. Try it and see if it makes it through prime.

2.2v on the ram is probably a good setting for your memory at that speed, since at 1066mhz it is rated at 2.3v, so you are fine there.

@3ball: yeah i know.i exxagorate it abit!lol but 667 there is no need even for 2v it should do it on 1.8(stock/auto)

@OP: yeah change the cpu to 1.475v and NB well i would put it at 1.4v to start with. up those to voltage and lower the mem voltage to 1.8 or 2v?try that out?

Yea I knew that you did, but the OP seemed as though they maybe would not, so I just wanted to clarify.

Remember that prime doesnt just stress the CPU. It also stresses the memory and if the memory is bad then the test will fail. Just to be sure. Leave your memory on the settings it is on now. 2.2v @ 800mhz. Take the CPU vcore to the 1.475 - 1.5v setting and the NB to 1.55 (not leaving at this) then run the test.

If it fails at this then you may want to run memtest86+ on the memory to verify that it is working correctly. Because if it isnt then none of this will work.

Still getting errors on core 3 with 1.475 on CPU and 1.4 on NB.
I have 5-5-5-18 2.2V atm, 400 FSB * 8. Temps are getting kinda high now 73 in coretemp and 68 in realtemp.
