OC'd Duron v. OC'd TBird

I imagine there are more than a few overclockers out there deciding between overclocking a Duron or TBird. Reports suggest a Duron 600 can be pushed to 900. TBird 700 can be pushed too, but not to the percentage of gains as the Duron. Consider this thought - if I purchase a Duron 800 for say $90 and a TBird 700 for about $90 (you see where I'm going) while overclocking both to reasonable heights, which is the better choice, value, and for which kind of user?
This is a call to the hands on folks. Price and usage being factors, what are the arguements?
I believe this can be an important thread.

you think D600 hit 1000Ghz, wow a 400MHZ gain, great YES. D800 is not going to give you the same 400mhz gain. if are LUCKY you buy a D600 you will hit 1G, not all D600 have hit 900 or higher, SOME, and some will only do 700 or 800. so depend on your luck with getting the when the chip was made, and the strength of each individual chip.

D800, have only been seen to hit around 900-1.05G, never seen higher. so your question D800@1G, yes better CHANCEs of getting 1G than a D600 or D650.

T700, will OC to probaly roughly, 900Mhz, good reasonable number. (I have a green core TB750@950<- slight hiccup now and then<+200mhz> Max 970Mhz<too much hiccups>) alittle disapointed I couldn't hit the magic number. but hey, it just wasn't my day.

best BET is to LOOK for a BLUE CORE TB, around 750<still a cheap $, even if they are seelling more expensive than a TB800 or 900, they are worth every penny, go for BCore TB. they been seen regularly to OC over 1G, and some 1.2G. I know PCNUT.com use to sell them but they are out. some people in this forum use them, maybe you should ask them where they got it. Look around for BATMAN, he told me he got two Blue COre, maybe you could ask him, where he got it.

so here is somewhat of a resolution to your ?? IF you are going to go for any processor, do not get the lastest, or the best of it's Kind. THEY are more expensive. <eg. D650@1G v D800@1G.> but how do you know you'll get a D650@1G, well you don't. unless you get a pretested processor.

I say between D800 and a TB700, go with the TB. I can't promise which will OC better, but at least you are safer, knowing you have a much larger L2.
