We'll have to wait till someone with a home power plant tries it out. I'm sure it will be good, but at what cost?

Hehe, i've been aggressively arguing both sides for a few weeks now - trust me on one thing, I don't have a bias to either company thats for sure.

Anyways, when I bring up the 9800GTX+ increases I bring that up because those are the stock clocks, and since the process was shrunk to 55nm if the chip quality is good you should be able to take those clocks even further. I run 8800 GT in SLI at 700/1740/1000 and its great performance/price for when I got it. I think the point I guess i'm making is that 9800GTX+ should have a great overclock ceiling if the chips are good, which should allow it to compete very well with 4850s even if the 4850s are overclocked.

As I said before, i'm really just waiting to see if the 4870 beats the gtx260 with AA enabled by a large figure - as is I could go dual gtx260 in my current board, or i could go with a new board and crossfire 4870 and I think it'd cost about the same. I'm going ATI over Nvidia if there is a markable performance increase, but if there isn't i'll just stick to nvidia for sensibilities sake.

I was originally going to go with gtx280 SLI, but it looks like those gtx280 SLI really don't do much for you unless you are running 2560*1600, and since I run 22" on my gaming pc my max is 1680*1050 lol

I'm very excited about the 4870 release, because if the 4870 beats or matches the gtx260 then it is going to mean good prices for everyone and it'll pressure both Nvidia and AMD to accelerate their developement on the chip refresh and introduction of more new products

You guys need to keep in mind that Crossfire is known to scale better, and ATI image is a bit better looking than Nvidia:)

So even if in single the 280 GTX is better than the 4870 it might loose to it in a Crossfire/SLi battle:)

Hey ovaltineplease I hope you have either a low end system with a 1000w PSU or a Highend one with a 1200w+ PSU and some EXTREME cooling, otherwise those GTX260s will be uselessly underpowered and overheating. That is the main reason that I do not consider the GTX200 series a viable option.

Why did they post the shaders as 800? I smell something fishy.

liquid's on crack b/c most of the benchmarks I have seen shows the 4850 besting the 9800gtx....so liquid you can stop with the whole fanboism, b/c that is not cool, at all son...

just check the benchies at some the sites mentioned in the thread and in others...

The 4850 is the new bang for buck king. If I was upgrading now I'd get the 4850 over the 8800GT easily. CF support on Intel chipsets is just icing on the cake.

yup, I have excellent cooling and PSU, thanks for your valuable comments in the thread! :O

btw, I don't know why you consider the gtx200 series like that, given that they have no higher heat/power consumption than 9800GX2 does from what i've heard

yes i did. and i said "almost" beat the GTX. why? because in some benchmarks of certain games, the GTX came better than 4850.

when the 4850 win EVERY SINGLE benchmark. then you can give a statement as bold as "faster than GTX"

lol it'll have to have more than just higher clock speeds.... and the 4870 is ment to be over 30% faster than the 4850. 9800GTX+ w/e, wont make much difference :D

Not until a 55nm of GTX280 comesout. This 65nm varient is pretty useless. Absolutly not worth the money unless you want the TOP performance possible. Then SLI them.

Single card, pffftt, waste of money.

Oh, man! Just take a look at the "Power, Thermals, Noise and Die Size" section! WTF!

CrossFire with two 4850 uses 335.7 watts under LOAD, while a SINGLE GTX 280 uses 313.1!

 :pt1cable:

Comparing two cards vs one *IS* valid!

id like to draw ur attention to wards this

ATI was never so strong in ISV (Independent Software Vendor) marketing support and it never really had a tool to fight Nvidia's "The way it’s meant to be played". ATI's Get in the game marketing program didn't really get ATI far in the game but ATI did managed to get some cool titles.

ATI collaborated with Valve on Half life 2 and Half Life Episode One with its legendary vouchers and we have to admit that this worked really well for ATI as they sold a lot of Radeon 9600 and 9800 just because of that voucher that cost them a few million.

This is supposed to get to the next level as ATI will soon announce partnership with Blizzard the publisher behind Warcraft series, Diablo universe and Stracraft, games that are ultra popular especially in Asia.

Nvidia got most of EA and Ubisoft games under The Way it’s meant to be Played and ATI will get Blizzard which will definitely help its position in the GPU market.

from fud, i think this must be that partnership with intel kicking in, its looking bad for nvidia right now, The way it’s meant to be played is dead long live Get in the game and dx10.1
