9800 GTX+ 55nm refresh for this July looks like it could be very powerful

http://www.pcper.com/comments.php?nid=5814

$229, 512 gddr3 @ 1000 mhz, shader clock /1836/ mhz

the core clock increase is pretty nice and all, but that shader clock increase is going to be a nice jump in performance from the 9800 gtx vanilla - you should be able to overclock the shader clock on the 9800gtx+ even higher than that with good airflow

The 4850 crossfire has some great scores, looks like for a single card the performance is all there and the crossfire gives it an appropriate bump.

Now truthfully, I gotta be honest. I'm not that excited about the 4850 even with these silly price performance comparisons. However I think the 4870 is what we all should really be looking out for, if ATI scaled up the performance appropriately from 4850 to 4870 then the 4870 will be the card worth getting excited about

4850 in crossfire is certainly nice for 400$, but its still not earth shattering performance in comparison to everything else, the 4870 in crossfire however might be; i'm really a lot more interested in what is going to raise the top bar by a high margin next, then price/performance comparisons.

Justification...lol

Im glad your happy with Nvidia but IMO they are not offering much over what they have had. They are ethier holding out or are grasping at straw's with the new and improved 9800GTX+ lol. Com on Nvidia stop rehashing old product's and get the ball rolling!

Im selling my 8800gt that when new i paid 333$ for and buying a 4850!

ATI i love you thank you for the new low price mid section of gaming performance....Nvidia...? umm nice rehash.

What if the Hybrid is cheaper? : P And what if we don't even have the 600 Hp gas car but we want to upgrade?! : PP

Then it's a lot better! Not *THAT* better, but better nonetheless.

Either or thats prob what it is...I'm not happy with Nvidia...I'm just happy that my GX2 didn't become useless:)

the 9800 GTX+ will be slightly better than the current one and consume less power in my opinion. It will prob battle for the crown against the 4850.

I Still doubt it will come close to the GX2, 280, 4870.

I just hope they fix Tri and quad sli (if there are any problems at all anymore)

For a sticker price of 229.99 It becomes a better investment than the 8800 GTS 512.

55nm and stock 738 mhz. 2 of these in Sli would prob do better than a GX2 and a 280, but it won't outperform them in sli, not even if the 9800 GtX+ wa s tri enabled:p

You guys are so ridicules some times. The GX280 smokes the 4850. PWNAGE would not be the my choice of words. If you look at this it shows that the 4850 in crossfire is only slightly faster then the 3870 X2. So gains were made but this card isnt the best thing since sliced bread, and you need 2 of them to compete with 1 of the nvidia cards. But the real card to look out for is the 4870, but it still needs to come a long way to compete 1 on 1 with the new nvidia card.

I prefer women. They are more expensive, but they are upgradable. Oh man, Women.

There are thousands of posts regarding this. It becomes "PWNAGE" when it costs you around 200$ less and delivers *almost* the same performance in *most* - not all - benchmarks. The comparison between 2 cards vs 1 card is completely valid since the cost of going CrossFire is a lot cheaper than the cost of going 280 GTX.

Yeah. The big deal is supposed to be the 4870 version, though.

Going by the one bench in that page, I noticed that the line on the 4850 card was kinda flat. Which kind of amused me considering that they were running the bench's on a C2Q at 3ghz. Could it be possible that the CPU's used in these benchies are bottlenecking the 4850, in some games? As far as the temps some of the reviews are showing, my guess would likely be that the software isn't properly calibrated for the new thermal diodes. As one of the other sites said, the drivers for the 4800 cards in Vista 64 aren't out yet.

Interesting decision, since the r700 isnt even here yet. Let me point out a few obvious things here. At the very minimum, the x2 will be 20% faster than anything you see for the xf numbers of the 4850s. And, how much longer can anyone say DX10.1 wont matter? Theres another huge boost, which wont be seen by nVidia. And all on the cheap? I put my green hat on, defended the G280 for what it was, in all honesty. I see all this fanboyism from alot of people whore just green, no matter what, but mostly green with envy. Competition is good. This is finally what all the nVidia fans hoped for. Was nVidia just waiting to drop their bomb as soon as ATI launvched something? They dropped it alright. Satisfied? All this will do is force nVidia to go faster, sell cheaper, and make better products, so green team, dont slam these cards, theyre damn good, and will only get better. Cost effective, you name it, we the consumer are set for great times. These cards replace best bang for the buck, and to me thats fantastic, especially coming out the gate that way, wait til THEIR prices drop

HAHAHA!! Nice statement!!! However, what do you *exactly* mean by "upgradable"?! O.O Guess I'll have to inform mine about this feature... Perhaps a new driver release could help?!?

:pt1cable:  :pt1cable:

Oh, women! Just kidding... But it's time to find a new "rig", BTW. I'll keep trolling around the forums too until then.

Hey, JayD! Thought you wouldn't post here, dude. Good news for everyone! In fact, even Nvidia fanboys should be happy about these cards since they are bringing what we most need right now: real choices (a.k.a price battles).

Good summer for us! Let's hope DAMMIT can make some money out of these cards and use it to fuel their CPU division.

One thing I'm noticiing with these benchies is how well the AA/AF the 4850 is doing compared to the previous gen 38xx cards. Even when turning on AA its still hanging in there with the 8800Ultra/9800 GTX fairly well and even in some cases pulling ahead by a few fps. Could it possibly be the increase in the TMU's or just a different and better way ATI is doing its filtering?

The 4850 is going to be $199, the new prize for 9800GTX is going to be $199... It's a close call!
It's up what is better in sli or cf... ati or nvidia.
the perfonmance king will be 9800GTX+ in sli...

So we have some real battle going on! 4870 can be guite close to the performance of 9800GTX+... and when GDDR5 is guite expensive ATI has to rethink it's prising trategy...

I'm not an Nvidia Fanboy if thats what ppl are saying, I'm just defending my purchase with the information.

The 4870 will not be stronger than the 280 GTX. Thats fact. although he price is lower, for me it would be a lousy investment.

The 4870 X2 might show us some decent scores, but it will still cost double the 4870, considering how much the 3870 X2 cost when it was launched.

The GX2 is going down in price, we already have it here at some stores for 449.99. Which is pretty much what the X2 sells at right here.

The 280 GTx OC sells for about 615$

So when I made my decision for the summer, I think it stays. For people that were planning on investing in a card this summer, it will be a tough decision.

Probably both. :) If only they could make the 4870X2 more like a "dual core"... Perhaps they can.

I think you may find, just by looking at these numbers, the 4870 just may win a few against the g280, like I said, add 20% and maybe more to some of these numbers, and I can see the 4870 win in certain games

i just became fan of this 4850. i mean for 200usd. u can almost beat the 9800gtx. who thought that will be possible with that much of money.

n of course, the 4870 is coming. lets c what that card has to offer.

Agreed. I have always preferred ATI, so I am excited to see that the 4870 has a chance to do really well. My GTS 512 is running very well atm, but with these cards...even I am considering going dual 3870's (I say 'even', since most people around here probably know my general disliking for dual gpu's) At some point it just gets to tempting to try. lol, also...I was really turned off on the noise that the 280 makes. I cant do the 70dB or whatever it is that the 280 is churning out. I can handle somewhat loud fans as long as they arent high pitched, but once it gets that high...most likely the pitch goes with it. :(

Best,

3Ball

Have you even read a single review? The 4850 is faster than a 9800gtx and even more so when AA is used!

Jeez!
