i will never buy a video card with such silly memory incrementation like nvidia has done recently, gtx 275, 295, and now 470 and 480,

either 1gb, or 2gb for me, then 4gb, and so on.

[citation][nom]liquidsnake718[/nom]Wow, just looking at the box makes me wonder how Palit of all of the vendors got first dibs on marketing their "boxart'! Im sure you guys at TOM's must have a beta GTX480 and 470 sent by Nvidia so when the cards are released you would have a FULL REVIEW! Im actually getting tense as I cant wait to compare one of these cards with a Cypress card![/citation]

Palit is a HUGE buyer of nvidia chips. if not the biggest, then a close number two.

[citation][nom]m-manla[/nom]What is up with the odd RAM size. Why don't they just put a gig or two.[/citation]

it's odd because of the odd memory bus size.

Ok, so I buy ATI because it is cheaper, atleast for the 4850 I got a month after it came out. That was because of number and bang for buck. (so no I don't buy stuff because of the box, except for computer cases...)

Honestly though, I really do like that box art, to me it portrays power and capabilities.

Oh and it has the appearance of being shiny.

True. I hate that though. For some odd reason, it bugs me. I believe board manufactures will add extra though, making it a Gig at least.

Do you understand? It's not physically possible due to the gtx 4xx's memory bus size. They don't just pick some arbitrary amount of memory.

[citation][nom]odin607[/nom]The RAM values arent odd.1.5 x 1024=15361.25 x 1024=1280Math is hard.[/citation]

I think they put it this way.

128 MB x 10 = 1280 MB
128 MB x 12 = 1536 MB

It is just a simple math. Each ram chip = 128 MB

cheers

Does anyone pay attention to things that happened more tahn five minutes ago? These memory sizes are a return to the 320- and 384- bit interfaces of the 8800 GTS/GTX days. Interesting, and I, for one, hope AMD does a slightly wider bus in the 6xxx series cards, 'cause the 5870 is just a bit bandwidth-starved.

Drooling over the boxes ... ??

Your going to be so upset when you see how bad the actual product is, and how expensive it is, how hot it runs, how they can't produce enough of them.

That won't help sales ... will it?

I hope
