Offline Folders

One of our users is having problems synchronising one of his offline folders.
He gets the error message

Offline Files(\\nas1\Users on nas1):Unable to make 'FOLDER NAME' available
on \\nas1\users\smcnally\customers - The system is currently running with the
last known good configuration

It occured to me that the NAS server may have been running in last know
good, so i restarted it on friday but this doesn't seem to have resolved the
problem. He has deleted the offline folders on his machine and tried to make
them available offline again but that didn't work either.
The client machine is XP Pro SP2, the server is 2003 server appliance edition.
Any ideas what could be causing this?

It could be permissions on the remote folder. Try looking to see if the
user has permissions through the share and at the folder level on your
server.

The folder is within the users homefolder and he has rights throughout the
folder

WinXP Pro offline folders reside on the client at \Windows\CSC (client side
cache). It may be that this folder or its contents have become corrupt or
otherwise damaged. Try this:

1) Can the user manually map a drive to the \\nas1\Users folder
successfully? If not, check share/NTFS permissions. If so, continue to next
step.
2) If you launch Explorer on the client and select 'Tools, Synchronize' does
everything look correct? If not, delete the sync settings and reboot. Then
recreate them.
3) Has the share on the server (or the server itself) recently been
renamed/unshared or modified in any way? If so, you'll likely have to
recreate the sync folder settings on the client PC.
4) Review the registry keys on the client PC at
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Currentversion\Explorer\ShellFolders - This is
where any folder replication/sync pointers reside (if I remmbeer correctly,
not 100% sure on this one).

Failing all else, there is a program called CSCSNIFF that Microsoft
provides which allows you to check the status of all sync folders on the
client PC. It tells you a bunch of details regarding the status of each
sync'ed folder on the client PC.
