A friedn came over yesterday and we backed up all his data on dvd...reformated and copied all the dvd info back. EXCEPT somehow all his pictures did not get transfered. Is there any chance for recovery after a reformat?

What did you reformat?

If it was the main hd, and you've since reinstalled XP - your pictures are gone.

If it was a second drive (let's say "D") being used for storage, you have a chance at data recovery if nothing has been written to it yet. Recovering data is pricey. Expect no better than about a $750 fee (some charge $1500). There are some freebie apps out there, but I have no experience with them.

Whenever a customer of mine needs this service, I canvass for the best price at that moment. Google them and make phone calls.

hi.
of course there is always a way to recover all the lost data,
ever since its first byte that was writen on a hd.
it does not matter if there are all data,
the only thing you need is a other hd(not the one who would be recovered)
and a apllication.

That looks like a great tip, bacis. Less than a hundred bucks, and you can do it yourself.

I wish there was something like that 8-10 years ago when some people close to me lost their business due to a computer accident, and were under a time restraint. I tried normal service channels, and not one of them could deliver under 5 days.
