Old 110 Cameras

Not quite sure which newsgroups to post to, but here goes.

I took lots of photos on an old 110 camera (Thats the only name I have for
it) and have many negatives from it.

What I'd like to know is what scanners available today would let me scan
these negatives for printing out later? Most scanners I've read reviews
about scan 35mm film/negatives which I don't have or need.

I'd go for an Epson Photo Perfection scanner (possibly 2480 or 2580) but
don't know if it'll scan the 110 camera negatives.

Nothing more than £130!!

TIA

I am not familiar with the models you list, but you could put maybe two rows
per 35mm holder or even what ever would fit a 4x5 frame. With a little
ingenuity, and a lot of patience, you could probably develop your own 110
strip holder from cardboard or plastic stock.

I remember 110 film, and I don't think it was called anything else. It kind
of fizzled but was real popular for a while. The quality of the negative, as
a result of mostly really simple single setting cameras, is probably the
reason there are no commercial solutions for scanning the format. Pentax
actually made a 110 SLR that was capable of good quality results. Maybe if
you check a Pentax NG or owners club you may be able to find someone that
has a solution for you.

Do a Google search on "110 slide mount". You'll find advice there.

110 film is small and hard to scan.

You may be able to scan the 110 film using the 35 mm Transparency Adapter
that comes with many scanners.
There is not a scanner film holder made for 110 film, you would have to make
your own film holder or mask for 110 film.

The frame size of 110 film is 13 mm X 17 mm. (Thank you Kodak photographic
products 1977-1978)
Convert 13 mm to inches: 13 / 25.4 = 0.511811023 inches
Convert 17 mm to inches: 17 / 25.4 = 0.669291338 inches

To make a 300 dpi 4 X 6 inch print takes 1200 X 1800 pixels.
To get 1800 pixels from 17 mm takes a scan of 2690 dpi.
Scan 13 mm X 17 mm at 2690 dpi would give a 1377 x 1800 pixel image.

Both the Epson Photo Perfection 2480 or 2580 are 2400 dpi Scanners.
So the maximum Size you could get from a 2400 dpi scanner is 1228 x 1606
pixels.
Your print size at 300 dpi would end up as 4.09 inches by 5.35 inches.

The Epson 3170 is 3200 dpi and has enough resolution to make 4 X 6 inch
prints from 110 film.
13 mm x 17 mm = 1637 x 2141 pixels scanned at 3200 dpi.

Flatbed scanners are not as sharp as film scanners and may give a slightly
fuzzy image of 110 film.

Thank you very much for the replies. Would the 35mm automatic loader on the
2580 be any use for the 110 negatives?

Thanks again for the replies.

No.
There is to comparison between 110 film and 35 mm film. the automatic loader
is made to fit only 35 mm.
110 film is almost one half the width of 35 mm.

35 mm film is actually 35 mm wide.
35 mm for still cameras has a picture frame of 24 mm x 36 mm.

110 film is actually 16 mm wide.
110 film has a picture size of 13 mm x 17 mm.

No matter what scanner you get, you are going to have to make a mask to fit
110 format and scan one frame at a time using all manual settings.

Once again, 'CSM1' thanks for the replies and advice. I've just ordered a

Thanks

A 110 film is 16mm film.

A Nikon Scanner with an FH-816 16mm film holder off Amazon will hold
your films.

The FH-816 film holder is expensive, uless you find one on eBay.
