Old laptop (Compaq Armada m700) dies after short period of usage

Hi,

First post here from a new user (although I have known of TH since elementary school). i recently acquired a Compaq Armada m700 with Win 98SE/DOS installed, because I wanted to have a laptop to run some of my older (Win 95 typically) game without having to deal with a virtual machine or some such. Problem is, it dies after perhaps half an hour of usage, even with the charing cable plugged in. If I leave it in for a while to let it charge, it can be restarted, but dies again. What is this behaviour symptomatic of? I know it is a very old laptop, so probably some parts need replacing? I checked the energy measurement setting, and the battery (1 out of 4 installed?) says "Charging", but 0%.

Related question:
If the battery needs to be changed, is this what the battery is supposed to look like? I really have never dabbled in the hardware before.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
