Hello all,

I'm looking at a new build for my HTPC and have a question about video on the motherboard. Some of the motherboards I've been looking at have HDMI output but no video chipset. For example, see this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157258

Does this mean that it just doesn't have a dedicated processor/memory for video and has to use the CPU for processing and general memory?

Thanks!

Solution
On all modern CPUs like the Intel i3 i5 or i7s or the AMD A series the GPU is built into the CPU. The mother board only provides a pass through.

So your first step is to decide what CPU you want and if you want to use the onchip GPU. Then pick a mobo.
