Question One of my laptop fans is making noise - really loud!

Hi!

Around 2 years ago I bought a Asus Predator Triton 300 which has been performing amazingly until a couple of months ago when the right fan (I believe it's the GPU fan) has started to make buzzing/grinding sound when turned on. Sometimes this calms down and the buzzing stops. And sometimes it carries on and it gets really loud! I have cleaned it out a couple of times now and that doesn't seem to be helped too much.

Would really appreciate some advice and if someone could point me in the right direction.

Sounds like a fan bearing issue. Only way to fix that is to tear it down and replace the cooling fan or take it to a repair shop and have them do it. The reason it isn't doing it all the time is because the fan isn't operating at high speed, and thus, at the same bearing temperatures, all the time.

I think you should visit some repairing shop and replace the fan with new cooling one.

If it is sometimes getting louder and other times quieter then there is something wrong with the fan blades / it's hitting something in the PC, you will need to take it to a repair shop to get the fan replaced.

If it was fan blades it would do it ALL the time, not just under heavier loads where heat becomes a factor. That is generally bearing related. Besides which, fan blades don't generally make "grinding" sounds. Bearings do.
