Ok guys, I'm on a relatively tight budget right now, but my old motherboard has gone kaput on me and I am in need of a new mobo, memory, and a cpu. Here is what I am thinkin on getting:

ASRock 939Dual (for my x800xt AIW i just bought a month ago)
2gigs G.SKill DDR500 or 1gig OCZ Platinum PC4800
Opteron 148 or 165

Now here's the catch. If i get the 165, I wont be able to afford the 2 gigs of memory (which I want). So I can get either the 165 with 1gig, or the 148 and 2 gigs...IM SO TORN!!! (I am fully aware of the overclocking possibilities of both)

Please give me a reason to your suggestions.

Thanks!

Chadder, be careful about the 165. 170 might be a better choice, considering it is MUCH higher rated. My friend recently purchased a 165 and core0 is having serious problems, as is anybody else with stepping CCBWE0551VPMW. Keep in mind though, a dual core would most likely outperform a single core chip with twice the memory size. BTW, about that stepping-he bought it brand new, not OEM. It is the week 56 revision, VERY new, so your chances of getting it are rather high. Pay the extra money and get one off ebay if you can, because core0 will screw you, it failed at 1.8 stock (although core1 will pass anything at 2.7+)

Thanks for the feedback AK.

Everyone else is no help here. 150+ views and just 5 posts, mostly my own. Thanks alot
