Hey guys,

Currently, I have an opteron 165 @ 2.7Ghz under water. Im thinking about doing a minor upgrade to a Black Edition X2 7750 (2.7Ghz) which will be overclocking too under water (im hoping to achieve 3.2Ghz-3.3Ghz). Im planning to use my existing dual 9800GT's (under water) in a SLI setup with an OCZ GameXstreme 700W. I would need a new mobo and ram.

Do you think I will see alot of improvements??? I generally game at 1920 with 2x or 4x AA...

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it alot.

I dont know about alot, but you should see decent gains. I made the jump from Opty165@2.9 to an E8400, maintaining my SLi 8800GT, and while Crysis improved, I cant say I really noticed big improvements in anything else.

Since you need a new M/B anyway why don't you save your lunch money for a few weeks longer and get a 720? I went from a 1210 @ 2.4 and am very happy with the move.

Im with MISRy, since your going AM2+ anyhow, you should get a PhenomII. If you can stand to wait, there are set to be X2s released before long.

Ive basicly upgraded from exally your same spec, im not a huge gamer but i do like to play crysis and a few others, i went and bought a intel e5200 clocked to 3.8ghz abit p5q-e there are others bu i wanted the onbord optical so i could link it up to my reciver and 4gb of Crucial 4GB PC2-6400 Ballistix memory, and it blows my last system out the water, it cost £230 and i sold all my old bits for more than that, i also had a hd4670 off a m8 and i love it, best pc ive ever had for so little.

Hello Gingerben, this is the Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200 u are referring to right? How does it perform compared to the Opty @ 2.7Ghz? How much do you think I can OC' the E5200 under water?

i didnt take any massive benchmarks before the swap only 1 in 3dmark vantage, with the opty it scored i think around the 3500 mark now with the e5200 its getting about 7000+ still playing thats with it at 340fsb x 11.5 3.9ghz, and im using a tuniq tower its not the best cooler thesedays but it dose the job, i have been told there are some pretty bad clocking e5200s out there but all i can say is from mine im very happy, its just every thing is way way faster then the opty loading crysis takes about 10 secs insted of about a minite before, One thing i will advise if you get a e5200 is to get 800mhz memory with tighter timings like 4-4-4-12 aposed to 1066 ram with 5-5-5-15 as it will perform better and be easyer to work with. unlike the old amds the fsb is compleatly separat from the memory and you dont lose massive or performace running differnt ram ratios. also have a search on google there are menny people hittin 4ghz, mine will do it with about 1.38v but it starts to get a little to warm for me.
