Output as a MPEG2 format

I have Sony DVCamcorder. I have also Firewire card. I do
film making with this card. This is fantastic. But when I
go to make a video CD then the output file become
compressed. It looses it's resolution. That's why I would
like to make an output as MPEG2 format. How can I do
this ...

You must use third party software like TMPGEnc.

I agree, TMPGEncoder is very usfull but for other people using this forum as
troubleshoot, I have had troubles with dubbing the sound as wel, if you have
the same problem try VirtualDub....

You are going to lose resolution if you go to VCD or SVCD. If you
have a "busy" shot it may be VERY obvious.

NTSC DVD resolution is 720x480 while VCD is 352x240; you have less
than 1/4 of the pixels to work with. An SVCD disk with MPeg2 video
files will give you 480x480, but you have to make sure your player can
play that format.
