I have the following memory I purchased about a year ago:

My question is.....I want to overclock my E8400 processor. With my motherboard, the multiplier options for the memory are 2.00 or 2.4 for my overclock. At 2.0, the memory is actually underclocked at around 720-760MHz depending on the overclock. At 2.4, the memory is overclocked at around 850-880MHz. Will this overclock hurt this ram? Or should I underclock it, and if I underclock it, how much performance will I really lose versus overclocking? Thanks!

You won't see much difference from 760mhz ram to 880mhz ram. If you use 760mhz, you could probably use tight 4-4-4-12 1T timings. Not only that, but it allows for higher oc, if you decide to push your processor more.

What motherboard do you have?

I'm pretty sure you can get 1600mhz FSB, or 400bus speed, that should put you right inline with 800mhz ram. If your E8400 is an E0, it's almost certain it can do 3.6ghz with minimal voltage increase.

Got my E8400 about a year ago, and it is a C0. Got it to 3.30GHz last night, and core temps were around 30's C idle and up to about 50-54C under full load. Room temp was around 26-28C though(warm). Dunno if I wanna push it too far.
