Hi community,

So recently i build my own rig and everything is working perfectly. I had some minor issues but i fixed it with the help of my friend "google" and u guys 😉 but let's put that aside for now.

I'm here to ask for some information to overclock my gpu. I'm really new to this and want to play everything safe, i've watched some video's about overclocking but sometimes they go way to far into detail that makes my brain melt. (lol)

So maybe u guys can give me some info?? I'm running EVGA precision X with my EVGA GTX 980 ftw edition ACX 2.0 cooling. Playing gta 5 the temp of my card is max 63 degrees celcius (custom fan profile) GTA is running just fine but i really want to get some more juice out of my card without decreasing the lifespan by to much. I know u have to turn up gpu clock offset and mem clock offset but pairing these 2 is hard to understand for me.

Sorry for the long post but i really want to know what u guys can teach or tell me about OC'ing, (i've never overclocked anything before)

EDIT: I'm really sorry that i posted this in the wrong section, didn't read that there was a overclocking section, can an admin move it to the right section?? sorry!
peace!!

It's okay, this topic is fine here.

I'd aim to first set your core speed to 1280 (so +14Mhz) and the memory speed to 1800MHz, then benchmark it. Then alternate between taking your core speed and memory speed up by 10MHz until you experience a crash in a benchmark.

Thanks for the answer!

So there is nothing bad about Oc'ing the memory of the gpu? What if i don't oc the memory 😵
I also heard there is an overvoltage option that u can use but it's better to have a properly working overclock without overvoltage right?

My core speed is at 1279 already by the way.

Overclocking a GPU is very easy compared to overclocking other components, especially with the GTX 900 series it should be hassle free.

Make sure you have these programs first:
GPUZ
MSI Kombustor
Unigine Valley

Now move the power consumption to the maximum it will let you, usually 110%. After that move the maximum temperatures to around 85C depending on what you find comfortable. Anything under 85C is safe. Now move the voltage to however high you want it to, the slider will not go far enough to the point where it will be unsafe. Usually it's +87 mV

Now you are finally set to overclock. Start messing with the clock speed and the memory speed. Stresstest the GPU will MSI Kombustor and Unigine Valley to make sure it is stable. Try your best to get the most precise overclock for maximum performance.

Hi man, yeah i have 3dmark as stresstest,i think that's also good right?
Also is it healthy to overvolt ur card? I heard it's not so healthy ;s

The program will not let you overvoltage to the point it is unsafe. You really can not go wrong wirth GPU overclocking with MSI Afterburner, EVGA Percision X or Asus's OC Program, unless you do not set the fan to auto or user defined.

Up to the maximum voltage that is available in your Precision X will not be harmful. Usually +87 mV

Alright then, altough i'l prefer not overvolting, tomorow i'l try overclocking by little steps and share the result on here!

Thanks for the tips

Without increasing the voltage you won't really get a very good overclock. Good Luck 😀
