Overclocking i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz

Hey guys this here is my build. And what I was wondering is how to overclock? Very general I know. But as I get more into these forums and more into the things you can do to expand your system's capabilities the more intrigued I am. I am looking for someone to be able to tell me step by step the process and to suggest a good cooler for me. I know this is asking a lot but I would greatly appreciate someone telling me ways I can make my system more powerful and how to do it.

The i5-2500k is overclocked by raising the multiplier, although some very high quality mobos will allow you to raise the base clock (bclk). Start with this guide:

then when you've gotten comfortable with this, you can try going further. As for a CPU cooler, the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus is a popular choice. If you'd like to see some other coolers for comparison, check out www.frozencpu.com and/or www.newegg.com

Problem is my motherboard is not an option from this link. Is my motherboard not capable of handling this OC or is it just not the most common?

Like I said I am completely blind and not sure if I will definitely want to go through with this for the simple fear of blowing a couple hundred bucks.

I realize that your mobo is not the one used in the article, but the information provided in the article, including the screenshots, will help you understand the mechanics of overclocking the 2500k. Start with the basics:

1. Navigate through your BIOS - find the advanced features
2. Learn the terminology used in your BIOS - compare what you see in your BIOS to what you see in the linked article
3. Raise your multiplier by 5 or so, then test for stability in Windows - Download and install Prime95, CPU-Z, and HW Monitor
4. Disable power saving features in the BIOS (C1E, speed step, etc)

I failed to mention, in step 3, repeat until the system is unstable. At this point is where you start changing voltages, to regain/increase stability.
