Overclocking intel i5 scary temps

Hi guys, used the Asus z97 software to overclock my i5 4690k, the test said it had overclocked to 4.3GHZ. I am using a 212 evo CPU cooler and a XFX 750w

During the stress test using prime 95 according to core temp the cpu reached temperatures of 92'c however according to the Asus suit which has the 5 way optimization tool the temp never went over 84'c.

As a result I have stopped the test after 4 hours, according to prime 95 everything said pass. However due to these high temps I have set everything back to default.

Do you think I may have damaged my CPU it only was at 92 for about 20 seconds then started to fall?

Im just planning on using the rig for gaming for around 3 to 4 hours at a time. Will be playing games like BF4, MOD, Fay Cry.

The system seems to be running fine do you think ive damaged it?

You have damaged nothing as long as you did not increase the voltage manually by too much.
92C is a bit hot, but not yet dangerous.

I assume you used the provided program to try and overclock?

Yes used the 5 way optimization tool provided by Asus.

The high temperature only accrued about once every hour. I went back to the 5 way optimization software and just set it back to default the computer reboot. All seems to be working. However 100% sure should I run another stress test wilt prime 95 or just leave it?

The motherboard and PCH (not sure what this is) stayed around 30 for mobo and 39 for PCH.

Then you have nothing to worry.

But in future never overclock with software.
ALSO, never overclocking without EXTENSIVE research before hand.

Don't run prime95 as it is upping your voltage for no reason. You will never actually use 100% cpu while gaming if that is your purpose so don't run prime95. No reason. I have i5 4690k with noctua nh-d15 I'm having it on 4.8GHz on load while gaming at 55-65C

Absolutely no NEED to overclock. Maybe in a few years you can consider it.

z97-a 5way optimization test it for you. when it got up to 4.9GHz it restarted my pc with the message 4.8GHz is max I could reach with it being stable. (something like that in that context)
Z97 motherboards that are made for devils canyon cpu-s have awesome software that automatically overclocks your cpu while it is on load so you don't have to do anything manually. At the moment it is sitting on 0.8GHz, if you go to play smth it varies between 4.5 and 4.8GHz depeding if I'm in action or just walking around the map (it is also dependent on your cpu cooler ofc)

It applies to much voltage too often, which drastically reduces CPU lifespan.

1.273V is too much for 4.8GHz???? I don't think so and you are wrong.

That is pretty high, not to mention I am sure that is NOT your peak voltage.

Go ask anyone on the Intel OC Club right here on this site if software or BIOS is better for overclocking.

I have no desire to argue with you.
