Overclocking with default cooler?

After getting my core 2 duo 6400, I have been disappointed with its performance VS my old AMD 3700+ San Diego. So I thought why not try overclocking?

My question is, would it be okay to attempt overclocking (to about 2.4-2.6 Ghz) with the default HSF on the E6400? Assuming temperatures don't go much above 55C?

Any help appreciated.

EDIT: I guess I found my answer. A lot of people can overclock to up to 3 ghz with default cooler. Definetely need a new cooler for above that.

C2D's have 3 temperature sensors which read 2 different sets of temps. Please check the following topic for details regarding how to determine normal temps:
