cpu: i5 4690k
cooler: Corsair Hydro Liquid CPU Cooler H80i
mobo: asus z97-A
gpu: gtx 970

~4 year old rig. BSODed while installing wifi driver, whole bunch of crap to deal with, but thats all behind me right now. Still BSODs (WHEA uncorrectable), figured out its bc the cpu gets to 80 C. Removed the liquid cooler for the stock cpu fan + new thermal paste and now it stays alive a little longer. But under any load or sometimes randomly it will go to 80 again and crash. Is it worth it buying a new cooler or should I just start over?

Solution
A 4690K should not be crashing at 80'C. The TJMax is 100'C

So, you've got another issue going on. WHEA uncorrectable is more likely to be system memory or driver related than anything else.

Sure, it might be worthwhile to upgrade... we've come a long way from Haswell/Devil's Canyon.... but assuming the CPU is still doing everything you need it to (when it's not crashing), then there's no need to upgrade
