Hello, so i am deciding to upgrade my current build ryzen 5 5500 + RX 6650 XT + 16GB RAM 3200 and upgrade to a Ryzen 9 5900x + RX 7800XT + 32 GB 4000 RAM
but dont know whether this would be overkill at 1080p 240hz. Either way i am still going to upgrade and if it is overkill i will upgrade my monitor to a 1440p sometime soon also.

Overkill for what? I'm going to assume games, since that's the common subject...
No need for a dual CCX Ryzen for those, plus Windows' thread scheduler, while it has improved, still has some hiccups with the dual CCX chips here and there.
Make, model, and age of the current psu?

corsair cv550 1 year but will definitely be considering the upgrade here too as the Wattage of the pc will rise by quite a bit.

and also what do you mean by the dual CCX Ryzen? and why wont i need it

Each AMD CPU consists of CCX's. They are called Core Complexes. Some CPU's like the 5800x/5700x use a single CCX. This means that there 8 cores packed onto the chip. Bigger CPUs like the 5950x have two CCX's each with 8 cores to make a total of 16 cores.

On a single CCX CPU latency is very low. On the larger ones with 2 CCX's have to communicate and this adds latency.

Whilst lets a 5800x with a single CCX might be faster in gaming than a 5950x, it will be in a limited number games. Most games will favour the Single Core performance of the 5950x. It's a good CPU. Fast.

What Roland Of Gilead posted.
There's higher latency, and as well as the thread scheduler accidentally allocating work to the CCX with the slower cores.
Leave the Ryzen 9 be unless you absolutely need those extra cores.

Yeah, definitely upgrade that.

Yeah, definitely upgrade that.
then what CPU would you suggest to pair with the rx7800xt?

5800x3d

No if's and's or but's. It's by far the best gamer in Zen 3 line-up. Now, it doesn't do well in all titles, but does in most. It also comes in about 5% lower than the vanilla 5800x, but is still a strong multitasker. Streaming whilst playing will be no bother. Not only are there faster frame rates, but also better 1% lows, which is an indication of how smooth the game will be.

so on ebuyer.com the 5800x is cheaper by £90 ($110). which one would be the better option?
